The cladding was put there for aesthetic reasons,to suit the new wealth that moved into area. I lived in that area for area for years, it has changed beyond recognition. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/201 ... m=facebook

Hello.

I have just spotted this thread and thought I should add this:

This comes from www.building.co.uk - a reputable online building trade magazine:

"...It also said it should not take a serious fire in which many people are killed before all reasonable steps are taken towards minimising the risks. This advice was not incorporated into the 2010 revision of Part B."

"Instead the government has sat on its hands and Part B remains unrevised allowing the use of cladding systems such as the one used on Grenfell Tower. Leaving aside the potentially serious political repercussions for the Conservative government..."

And the BBC too?

There has been criticism that warnings were ignored from a coroner's report in March 2013 following a deadly 2009 fire in south London - at Lakanal House in Southwark.

Coroner Frances Kirkham wrote to then Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, flagging up several areas of concern.

Why are you happy for labour to wrap social housing in this cladding?

It's banned according to Chancellor Hammond... :dunno:

...why then did Pickles not implement the recommended changes in 2013 when the dangers were known...

...and perhaps more alarmingly, why did Tory-controlled Kensington & Chelsea sign off this illegal cladding in 2016?

A 2013 coroners report into the fire, which killed six people, recommended Mr Javid’s department, then run by Eric Pickles, review building regulations, “with particular regard to the spread of fire over the external envelope of the building.”

Almost four years on, the only progress the department has made in reviewing the regulations is to publish a survey in February 2017.

Why did you lie about this being fake news, Viper? :dunno:

8 years before...when labour government told the house of commons this cladding was safe...

Labour councils used the non-flammable panels.
Why didn't Conservative ones do the same?

Which five London MPs called on New Labour to fully fund sprinkler systems in high rises?

Who are seeking to protect with your lies Viper?

Talk about desperate.

It could have been prevented 17 years ago? Should it have been?

As ever Viper is entirely disingenuous at best.

In 2013 Eric Pickles was asked change regulations so that all future routine maintenance of tower blocks would include a sprinkler system and all cladding should be a fireproof variety made with mineral wool. Homes and Communities Secretary Eric Pickles chose to listen to Conservative councils anxious not to put up Council Taxes too much rather than safety experts who foresaw that Grenfell Tower was only a matter of time.

The blood is very specifically on Eric Pickles hands

Fake news

It is in the Daily Mail and Sun.
Are you saying they are spreading fake news?
Does that mean you will never link to those fake news, in your opinion, sites?

Pickles was asked to make changes in 2013 when the dangers of this cladding was known, had he done so these poor folk might not be dead - why did you lie by saying this was fake news? :shake head:

https://www.publications.parliament.uk/ ... 217s01.htm

11 Conservatives voted against the installation of sprinklers in 2013.

But it is New Labour's fault. :off head:
