He's had it around five years now and doesn't own as much as a spark plug. A neighbour whose work commute is 70 miles a day bought a good used Fiesta diesel cash outright. She keeps her cars a fair time before replacing and always has them regularly maintained. Yes when she comes to sell it will be below average price for the year as it will have high mileage, but will be a cracking bargain for anyone looking for a cheap runabout in good nick.
They aren't crazy at all.
Want to buy a £20k car ?
Try £450 a month for 5 years, and at the end the car is worth what Webuyanycar will pay (£2-3k) or you keep a car which is beginning to get expensive, faults wise. You then need to find another £20k....
OR - for £250 a month you PERMANENTLY have a new / nearly new car. You take advantage of new technology, better MPG, lower emissions, less road tax (until now) and you can upgrade every 3 years, getting all the upgraded safety, tech and comfort goodies.
I prefer the latter, have a Hyundai i40 with all the toys and love it. I could never have afforded the £23k to buy it.
