The British government will host a summit encouraging six European countries to join the EU for the sake of their “security, stability and prosperity”, months before it is due to sign its own Brexit withdrawal deal with Brussels.

London will in July play host to Western Balkans governments including Serbia and Albania, as well as existing EU member states, to discuss reforms to pave the way to future EU enlargement.

:ooer:

Hilarious! I liked this bit

Just as we seem set on leaving the EU, we start advising others to join. Government policy would not look out of place in the theatre of the absurd.” Mr Brake said of foreign secretary Boris Johnson: “This just shows how incompetent Boris is. I wouldn’t let him run a bath, let alone the Foreign Office.”

Don't forget the Scottish Indy referendum with Tories from the UK heading north of the border to say that we are better in a union and going alone would be economic suicide. :gigglesnshit:

Yes, lets !!!!!

Don't forget British Airways, British Gas and anything else with 'British' in the title, seemingly hated by dogmatic, sell at any price Tories.

I really find it hard to spot anyone who now believes that selling off the family silver for a pittance in the 1980s was actually a spiffing good idea.

It cost thousands of jobs, and allowed other countries to own our infrastructure, charging us what they want for use of it.

Madness of the right, personified.

Question is, why didn't Thatcher save for a rainy day when she had all the oil revenues pouring in? Tories are quick to say New Labour didn't but sit on their hands when asked why Thatcher didn't.

Er because she was doing what tories always do...paying down the massive debt legacy of the previous labour administration.

Read a book ffs.

There wasn't a massive debt legacy though. Guests question remains. Remind us why did the Tory Chancellor leave a note saying sorry we're broke in 1964?

This actually happened as well. Numerous Tories spoke out the case for Turkey joining the EU, including Gove and BoZo. Come the referendum Gove, Bozo etc said the EU will fail because it will allow the likes of Turkey to join. After the referendum Senior Tories like Gove and Bozo were out campaigning for, yes you guessed it, Turkey to join the EU. :yikes:

Most of Thatcher's policies have come back to bite the Tories. Her housing policies created the current crisis - not replicated elsewhere in Europe; her economic policies created the global financial crisis; her privatisations and union-bashing created falling pay seen nowhere else in Europe (even Greece increased pay since 2008) and the outrage at anyone trying to collectively bargain. I note Germany has strong trade unions and good working conditions, less hours to work, better productivity. Sounds awful!

I find it odd that if privatisation has been such a success, why no other country has replicated it like the UK.

Railways - UK is unique in privatisation in Europe, even Northern Ireland is state-owned!
Telecoms - France Government still owns significant share of Orange; German Government still owns significant share of DT
Post - publicly owned in most of Europe, e.g. France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland
Utilities - EDF in France is mostly state-owned

There is a max granted in some countries (German utilities are mainly privatised) but no country has privatised literally everything. Why might this be? It can't be a coincidence. Privatisation has done little to improve service. Railway punctuality for example is horrific compared to Switzerland or Germany. TfL Underground leads in the UK and is state-owned. Electricity prices are incredibly expensive (privatisation = competition = lower prices? Wrong, it's an organised cartel). Broadband prices are low because of strict regulation. Has privatisation increased fibre availability, nope. Do BT get lots of taxpayer money and have every FTTC contract? Yup, so much for competition.

I'm not saying we start privatising everything, that would be mad. But services which haven't improved and in fact cost more (railways!), seem to me pointless being privatised. I'm sure the German and French Governments love it, they can do fuck all and take a cut. But do we need them? I find it odd we don't get talk from the Brexiteers on this, taking our country back. Well let's take our railways back then.

Over 600 days since the advisory referendum, and Treeza has actually done something.

Yes, she has divided an already fatally split cabinet into 2 'teams' to discuss Brexit with one question to answer..... "HOW CAN THIS WORK ?"

Seriously. 600+ days for that.

The Tories stagger on from bad to worse. But the oddest thing is the complete failure of the UK public to realise where this is going. The polls seem to tell us that they are happy with her handling of this shambolic negotiation process. I must admit, this is quietly pleasing, as the longer it goes on, the further she and her idiotic cabinet have to fall. And fall they will, as there is no real solution to many of the problems mentioned above.

It looks like there will be an extension of at least 6 months to the whole process.

The Sunderland Massive's MPs have spoken out. Boris has spoken out. According to today's news, a dozen cabinet ministers have spoken of their intent to block a customs union solution. And the people still seem to believe in the unicorn rainbow fantasy Brexit promised.

But at the end of all this, there must be a deal of some sort. And that is the point at which the public must decide, based on accurate information, whether the deal is acceptable or not. If it is, then we accept it and move on. We leave the EU, and the campaign to rejoin begins the next day. It took 40 years of bitter moaning for the Leavers to get us out, we would hope for it to take the simplicity of a new government to get us back in.

Winning a battle is nice. Winning a war is everything.
