Silicon Valley is dominated by Libertarian tech-bros who idolise Ayn Rand.

And San Fran is Liberal, Oakland has a more radical socialist history which is why they are resisting the influx of the silicon valley crowd

Watching Google's ferry steam out of Oakland docks beyond rock-throwing range it can seem as if here the anti-tech rebellion has found a bastion. It makes sense: Oakland, a gritty, industrial port city of 400,000 souls just across the bay from San Francisco, has been America's crucible of leftwing radicalism for more than a century, home to socialists, trade-union agitators, poets, jazz musicians, rabble-rousers, civil-rights leaders, Black Panthers and anarchists. Occupy activists clashed with police and stormed city hall here in 2012. A bronze sculpture of Oakland's most famous writer and activist, Jack London, overlooks the bay like a sentinel. "You have mismanaged the world," he once told a wealthy, frock-coated audience in New York, "and it shall be taken from you."

Like the posting of mail bombs to prominent Dems/Trump critics was

I read some report or post somewhere suggesting they'd mailed them to themselves!

Twitter has deleted thousands of automated accounts posting messages that tried to discourage and dissuade voters from casting their ballot in the upcoming election next week. The accounts posed as Democrats and try to convince key demographics to stay at home and not vote, likely as an attempt to sway the results in key election battlegrounds, according to Reuters, which first reported the news.

Trying very hard to figure the logic.

They (fake accounts) were first flagged by staff at the Democratic Party, but appears to be reported as Democrat tweets trying to dissuade someone (Republicans) from voting ?

Why would Democrat staff flag that to Twitter ?

Maybe because (and I know it's hard to believe) the person was honest and had morals?
Plus Republicans wouldn't bother reading Democratic tweets.
There is actually a new movement inside the Democratic party of young voters trying to break away from the old party.

Because the idea behind the bot army is to sow the seeds of complacency among the Dems by telling them that the result is already in the bag and they don't need to bother to vote.

I see.

So presumably the world will pin the blame on the Republican machine, and Trump will blame the press...

It looks like the Russians are getting the blame but there's no difference between them and the GOP anyway. #45 will always blame the press.

Twitter like the rest of Silicon Valley has a strong left-wing bias and have previously deleted many right-wing accounts under the guise of deleting "robots".
