Trump was right to call out the forestry mgmt state of CA. Maybe if some other prez would have taken the heat in the past then there would have been something done re forest mgmt and fire control measures and lives would have been saved.

Trump is meeting with Gov and Gov elect in CA today and very likely this will be the catalyst for some real change.

How much of the torched land was Federally owned?

Apparently 98%. The other 'upset' for orange man - a Democrat CA governor elect gave the Rep candidate a whipping in the election. In his victory speech he said, “The future belongs to California... It’s time to roll the credits on the politics of chaos and the politics of cruelty,” Newsom said. “We don’t separate families and we don’t lock kids in cages... STOOO--its not about funding. CA has the highest funding for every type program.its the asinine decisions made with the money.-Its easy to find quotes like you did without really thinking it through.
I could give you a good education about the state of CA--with its massively funded horrible public schools and massively funded environmental agencies which bankrupt the taxpayers and poison them as well. For a good example--Look up MTBE and what it did to the state of CA.Very well funded indeed.

The tally brought to 129 million the number of trees that have died in California forests during years of drought and bark beetle infestations since 2010.

During its review, the Commission found that California’s forests suffer from neglect and mismanagement, resulting in overcrowding that leaves them susceptible to disease, insects and wildfire. The Commission found commitment to long-lasting forest management changes at the highest levels of government, but that support for those changes needs to spread down not just through the state’s massive bureaucracy and law- and policymaking apparatuses, but among the general public as well. Complicating the management problem is the fact that the State of California owns very few of the forests within its borders – most are owned by the federal government or private landowners.

Among the Commission’s nine recommendations, it urges the state to take a greater leadership role in collaborative forest management planning at the watershed level. The Good Neighbor Authority granted in the 2014 Farm Bill provides a mechanism for the state to conduct restoration activities on federal land, but state agencies must have the financial and personnel resources to perform this work. As part of this collaborative effort, it calls upon the state to use more prescribed fire to reinvigorate forests, inhibit firestorms and help protect air and water quality. Central to these efforts must be a statewide public education campaign to help Californians understand why healthy forests matter to them, and elicit buy-in for the much-needed forest treatments.

good post..gotta rememeber that even with fed land in ca you gotta go thru the massive ca bureaucracy to get anything done.
not sure if you remember the massive blunders w poisonous gasoline additives in ca--additives which laughingly didnt even save on fuel. Cost ca taxpayers 30 billion..and even more for businesses that had to have their land dug up to remove the poison from the ground. CA has bureaucracies filled with non experts who file lawsuits and ruin peoples lives and have budgets as big as many countries/

Yeah but folk out there have always been a bit wacko and 'disconnected'! Seem to remember Clint Eastwood banning folk enjoying an ice cream on the beach when he was Mayor. :off head:

Banning plastic straws is good though...environmentally friendly.

Air quality is one of the reasons that California doesn't do more controlled burns. They violate California's pollution standards. Ironic eh?

I was in the hills west of los angeles in 93 there abouts. before dusk You couldn't see the Ocean, in the morning You could. irony I think a bit superficially tame?

Because it's out of the firezone. Those signs contain electrics and have to be fireproof especially in a high risk area, I'd look up the ordinances but I really can't be arsed.
