France arrests 21 after hundreds of African migrants occupy Pantheon

France on Saturday detained 21 African migrants who surged into the Pantheon in Paris to push their claims for regularised status, police said.

The 21 will be held pending investigation into potentially "violating legislation on foreigners," the local prefecture said.

One demonstrator was also detained on a charge of violent behaviour against a police officer and was due to face a magistrate Sunday, the Paris prosecutor said.

A small crowd gathered outside the police commissariat in Paris' fifth district where the migrants were detained. Some brandished placards urging the authorities to "free the gilets noirs (black vests)" and "police racists," according to an AFP photographer.

The "Black Vests" is a Paris-based migrant association that takes its name from the "yellow vest" anti-government protest movement.

Seems France is still in turmoil from various sections of society.

Paris protesters, police clash around Champs-Elysees after parade:

French police fired tear gas at protesters during a tense standoff in central Paris on Sunday in the aftermath of the annual Bastille Day military parade on the Champs-Elysees, AFP reporters said.

Officers attempted to disperse dozens of protesters, who chanted anti-government slogans, knocked down security barriers erected for the parade and set fire to refuse bins.

France, in particular Paris, has been rocked since late last year by the "yellow vest" protest movement against the government of President Emmanuel Macron.

Sunday's violence was the worst seen in central Paris since March. Many analysts had believed that the yellow vest movement had lost momentum.

But the demonstrators in central Paris were not wearing the yellow vests that marked out the movement. Police had earlier not allowed those wearing the garments past barriers and some had carried yellow balloons instead

Still protesting.

French Yellow Vests March To Denounce Police Violence; Promptly Get Beaten By Riot Cops

One week after a Yellow Vest organizer was "handicapped for life" by French police, protesters dedicated Saturday's demonstrations to denouncing police violence - only to be beaten and gassed by said police.

There have been 1,900 protesters and around 1,000 police injured since the movement began in November, and 10 fatalities, including an 80-year-old Marseille woman who was killed when a police tear-gas canister was launched into her apartment window while she was trying to close the shutters. She was taken to a nearby hospital but died during an operation after suffering shock, according to a local media report.

Amazing.

I visited a company in Lyon on business - even the 40 year old secretary was drop dead sex-on-a-stick. And she knew it. And if my missus hadn't been there.......

ps If you love great food and a beautiful city, don't miss Lyon.

With that recommendation I will endeavour not to. :smilin:

France in flames: 84,000 Yellow Vest protesters take to the streets across six cities as they attack a bank and riot beside Napoleon's tomb in Paris on the TENTH weekend of demonstrations

A bank was attacked, a government building was vandalised and rioting broke out next to Napoleon Bonaparte's tomb as 84,000 anti-government Yellow Vests demonstrated all over France for the 10th weekend in a row.

Protesters threw firecrackers, bottles and stones at police who used tear gas, water cannon, flash ball guns and baton charges to push them back at Les Invalides, where the body of the former French emperor and military leader lies in a sarcophagus underneath a golden dome.

According to official figures, the biggest demonstration on Saturday occurred in the southern city of Toulouse, where around 10,000 people took part. The demonstration turned violent as evening fell, as protesters vandalised a bank and other shops.

Eight people were injured and there were 23 arrests.

There were also disturbances in Bordeaux, Lyon and Marseille, while the local government building was attacked in Angers, northwest of Paris.

Still going strong and spreading by the looks of it.

Almost two thirds of France’s 3200 fixed speed cameras have been destroyed or otherwise vandalized during two months of Yellow Vest protests, it was announced today.

The incredible figure refers to 1920 devices that have been attacked and in some cases smashed to pieces by protesters linked to the anti-government movement.

Christophe Castaner, France’s Interior Minister, said: ‘Nearly sixty per cent of speed cameras have been degraded since the start of the Yellow Vest movement.’

Motorway toll booths have also been burned down by activists, who are now calling for Mr Macron to resign.

The FIRE-de-lis! France burns again as riot police blast tear gas at Yellow Vest activists intent on 'bringing down Macron' - while armoured vehicles are on standby as chaos spills into EIGHTH weekend

Foreign media and twiiter have the protests spreading to other countries. Not sure how this is going to be resolved, Macron going won't end the EU's neoliberal attitude and demanding austerity of other countries.

What Happens If the French Yellow Vests Win?

French elites are brutal, selfish, even perverse. Present French government is simply serving them, as the US presidents are all serving huge corporations, including those deadly military conglomerates. ‘They should go’, they should disappear, give way to what is logical human evolutionary pattern: a socialist, egalitarian society.

But they are not ready to go. On the contrary. They are robbing, for centuries, entire planet, and now they went so far as to plundering their own people (who were used to sharing the booty).

Excellent article well worth a read.
