I am liking Trudeau more each day.

Stands up to Trump, who hates him for it, now exhibits true compassion. Can't say I expected May to make a similar offer, somehw.

The problem is, what happens if the UN drops the ball? At this point, I would prefer that Thailand or another interested country would grant her asylum, regardless of what the UN decides.

Thailand won't let her go until she is assured of asylum in a safe country. Thai laws do not permit granting of asylum there.

She's been granted asylum in Canada

That'll be a shock, Saudi Arabia to a Canadian Winter

Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun says Thai authorities have returned her passport to her, giving new hope to the 18-year-old Saudi who barricaded herself in a Bangkok hotel room as she posted pleas for asylum over the weekend. Alqunun says her family has abused her and might kill her if she is deported.

The new development played out as Alqunun's father arrived in Thailand, setting off concerns that she might be forced to return to Saudi Arabia.

"My father just arrived," she said in an update on Monday, adding that it "worried and scared me a lot."

Thai officials had arranged for Alqunun to be on a flight out of Bangkok on Monday, but she refused to leave her airport hotel room before she spoke to someone from the U.N. Refugee Agency, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Repeating her desire to leave Thailand for another country where she can seek asylum, Alqunun said, "But at least I feel [safe] now under UNHCR protection with the agreement of Thailand authorities. And I finally got my passport back."

UNHCR - The world is watching you.

Why should she fear the creators of Wahhabism in the religion of peace?
This silly girl is overreacting.

One of the reasons the Saudi's ensured that an episode of Patriot Act was banned by Netflix in Saudi Arabia is precisely because the overwhelming majority of Muslims, and most especially those in the West, are opposed to the Saudi interpretation of Islam.

Don't forget Malala Yousafzai still identifies herself as a Muslim

I saw the docu on Latifa and it was very disturbing to say the least, especially the boat interception.I thought for sure that she's now dead, so that update has surprised me.She had a lot of 'freedom' as long as she was under supervision from minders and servants and considering the love of big brother surveillance in her country and around her family I was quite amazed that she was able to say and do the things shown in the docu.
She certainly looks zonked out in the update images. No doubt she's being medicated as a means of control but I have to admit that even on the documentary I got the vibe that she wasn't as in control mentally as she wanted to appear. There was a fragility about her in the docu, maybe because of her enforced lifestyle or maybe she really does have an underlying issue. That doesn't excuse how she's been treated as regards freedom, but it might explain the reluctance to let her too far off their tight leash.
Or maybe (definitely) her family are just bastards.
I doubt her life is a bed of roses now, poor girl.
I appreciate the update.

Saw that too. She’d escaped before while visiting London but was taken back and imprisoned for a while.

She’d said being rich and subservient isn’t worth losing your free will. They will try to break her again but I bet she escapes at the first opportunity. If they haven’t maimed or killed her.

Yeah it was really weird yet very fascinating. At first i thought, crikey she's living a life most can only dream of, but then it got a bit more 'dark'. Strange really as only the other day Channel 4 news ran a report about Iranian women truck drivers. Yep, that's right - Iranian women driving HGV's! That's still a comparative rarity in the west let alone a Muslim country.

Do people dream of a rich but suppressive life? Rich obviously isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
It is quite unusual for an extremist country to have female truck drivers, but I suppose they’re driving as a necessity more than as independence. Where are the male HGV drivers?

Latifa was very active in outdoor sports, particularly skiing. That didn't seem very 'suppressed' to me. It's some time since i viewed the doc and certainly parts were disturbing but also oddly conflicting. Regards the Iranian female truckers, C4 news ran the report last week and the lady featured was a husband and wife team with each owning their own truck. Not sure what you meant by your question. As with the west the majority of HGV drivers are male in Iran.

There's a young Polish female trucker who has a big following on YouTube and fb as she posts many clips of her trips and recently returned back from driving in Canada. To see a young lady truck driver in the west is still pretty uncommon despite the fact there's never been anything stopping them.

She certainly has been seen since. She was visited and filmed during an interview with former Eire president Mary Robinson a couple of weeks ago...

Photos were released of Mrs Robinson having a lunch with Latifa in Dubai. The former president smiles for the camera, while the frail-looking princess betrays little emotion.

In an interview with the BBC 12 days after the visit, Robinson said the princess was a "troubled young woman" who is receiving psychiatric care.

Robinson insisted in recent days that she travelled to Dubai to meet Latifa "in good faith", but the nature of the visit, apparently paid for by the Dubai royal family, has been criticised by the campaign groups Human Rights Watch and Detained in Dubai.

https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/t ... 79044.html

Just read through that and still not convinced! If as is reported she's a "troubled" woman with mental health issues, why the need to kidnap her in such a dramatic fashion?

She’s a “troubled woman” because she’s being held against her will, possibly been tortured or drugged again, like she says she was the last time.

Instead, she has been allowed to enter Thailand temporarily under the protection of the U.N. refugee agency, which was expected to take about five to seven days to study her case and her claim for asylum. She said she wants to go to Australia to seek refuge there.

The article suggested that Thailand honor the decision of the UN. I would prefer that they act on their own, regardless of what the UN decides, and let her go to another country, if their laws won't let her stay there.

You may not have seen the entire interview, at which it was categorically stated by Thai authorities that she would not be sent back into danger, under any circumstances.

I didn't see any interview. I just read your link. It appears from reading that, that the UN us calling the shots.

Only to a fucking moron.

So yes I guess it appears that way TO YOU
