A petition accompanying Lindzen's letter was signed by 300 other people. Lindzen described the signatories as "eminent scientists and other qualified individuals" in his letter. A review of the names by the Guardian, however, revealed few biology, chemistry, climate, earth and physics scientists. Many are well-known climate contrarians and deniers.
After MIT's climate researchers and faculty found out, they wrote their own open letter to the president, setting the record straight.
"As [Lindzen's] colleagues at MIT in the Program in Atmospheres, Oceans and Climate, all of whom are actively involved in understanding climate, we write to make it clear that this is not a view shared by us, or by the overwhelming majority of other scientists who have devoted their professional lives to careful study of climate science," said the March 2 letter, signed by 22 current and retired MIT professors.
The MIT staff addressed specific inaccuracies in Lindzen's letter, including his assertion that "carbon dioxide is not a pollutant."
"The risks to the Earth system associated with increasing levels of carbon dioxide are almost universally agreed by climate scientists to be real ones," they wrote. "These include, but are not limited to, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and increases in extreme flooding and droughts, all with serious consequences for mankind."
You must have looked VERY hard to find this bloke - and even his colleagues say he is 100% wrong...

carbon dioxide isn't a green house gas! it is only 380 parts per million water vapour. and drops out the atmosphere rapidly!
what effect does plomers floating on the suface of the Ocean have on the the Ocean floor? non! though the thermo dynamics of carbon in plastice will effect the surface waters altering temperatures.
as for a sea level rise it is insignificant and is consistent with historical records! at the end of the ice age sea levels where 300 meter lower than today!
Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas you crazy sonofabitch!
And of course sea levels were lower when all that water was locked up in the ice sheets.
Take aspirin, drink plenty of fluids and go to bed with a fluffy toy.
Nursey will wake you with a nice hot cup of tea and and some more pills.
And then we will get you studying, the Venusian atmosphere might be a good intro.
carbon dioxide was a green house gas 3 fk billion years ago when the atmosphere was mostly soot. You twit! show us one pice of evidence that proove carbon dioxide can remain in the atmosphere longer than water! which is a green house gas! I can't calculate the percentage from a mear 380 parts co2 compared to the million parts water vapour! nitrogen is a greeen house gas and is in far higher parts than carbon dioxide will be anytime in the future. unless you do something stupid and strip the atmosphere killing everything under the pretence of saving the environment that You fkn poluted! just clean up Your fkn mess and let the Planet do what it does!
You ignore the mechanics of gravity! the Sun! water and silicates in the atmosphere! any You can pay the window cleaner to remove the soot from My windows!
one of the few things I have learned about living in scotland. don't involve family! they don't give a flying fk who You think You are! You will end up dead or in hospital.
one other point, glaciers move at a rate determined by the volume of ice creating U shaped valleys! there are no arctic ice cores older than the last ice age (15 thousand years, there abouts), and the antarctic ice cores. what is the oldest, 50 thousand years at a push? two maybe three ice ages if You are lucky. You say the Earth is 4 billion years old, yet the Sun has more nitrogen than calculations permit. and stone isnt' very accurate on providing reliable dates. not neglecting the gravity was lower, and rotation greater than it is today. and there would have been a far longer period of time when crust was lava. oh, and without the volume of water over the mid atlantic ridge, We would see Adams rib, ie a volcano strching from greenland to the antactic.[/quote]
Scotland you say is violent and then you speculate on glaciers and the age of the planet and throw in the mid Atlantic ridge, your mind does wander a lot.
