The reason to support the right of free speech for disgusting individuals like the Westboro "church" is simple self-interest. Any legal mechanism put in place to shut them up now may be used to shut you up later.

Think about govt in all its forms for a minute. The corruption and incompetency. Are THESE the people you want to put in charge of what you can say and read?

It seems to be because they abide by what the bible states they are (to coin a phrase crucified for it) to me it's no worse than the Gay Pride march who thing they are the only ones who have a 'god given' right to an opinion and to show it in public. :dunno:

Best thing to do is to hold a mirror to an ideology so when a nazi or communist rant on about freedom of speech ask them how much freedom of speech nazi and communist regimes gave to their peoples, then afford them that option. I thought this was going to be about America ignoring the Wall Street Protests

Ignoring the hundreds of arrests

Ignoring the use of pepper spray etc on innocent people

The US media is keen show any demonstration against some leader it hates that particular week but stays schtumm about any internal dissent and acts just as any 'rogue state' does in denying certain news stories to the public.
