The Government is being urged to scrap a 'death tax' set to be included in the Health and Social Care Bill, which could cost bereaved relatives £170.
Under the clause, they would have to pay councils between £130 and £170 for new teams of officials to check the causes of death on certificates, under plans to improve the quality and accuracy of death statistics.
The method of collecting cause of death information in England and Wales is already among the best in the world.
It would cost taxpayers another £83 million a year....
A bit like the 'Bonfire of Quangos' which has actually resulted in thousands of EXTRA jobs being taken up.. Tories - say one thing, do quite another..
