I read somewhere where increasingly companies are rejecting CV's in favour for application forms.

No quibbles with them.

Decent money, very decent pension too.

What exactly do you expect them to do for him - conjure up jobs that Dave has cut ?

No not exactly but somehow introducing another way of getting a job as opposed to just doing it on line and getting nowhere would help.

Jobs online point people in the right direction.

But they are no substitute for sheer hard work, sending out CVs tailored to each application, visiting local companies, even reading local papers and the local notice boards in shops. Phone calls galore. And meanwhile, sign up for college to improve skills in areas of choice.

I have 2 young nephews going through the same thing, age 16 and 18. The older one is on his 4th job already, the other has gone back to 'Open Road'.

You signed on in the same place as the Jobs Info.

Now it is shut.

I have had various bouts of "In between jobs" but have never ever signed on and have always looked at other ways of making money.

I have reached the stage in life where I cant really work in a company/for other people and that is the way i wish to remain because I can choose my own hours.

I gave up full time employment in jan 2004 and went on a 5 year holiday and have just busied myself since my return.

To be honest, people just need to think out of the box and try anything because small opportunities always lead to bigger ones.

Best of luck to everyone in 2012.

I suppose you own a few properties do you. A five year holiday - dearie dearie me.

But I remember being asked to pick a suitable time, to be fair.

a lot of genuine jobseekers dont realise that the jobcentre will pay for your travel and one thing i didnt know about until a year ago is that when you get a job they will give you an open cheque book for debenhams or other high street stores to ge get a new wardrobe for work, but only if you ask, ASTONISHING but true

From where I live to the Job Center is 15 miles.

That's a bus (40 minutes) at 10am (1 bus a day) and a 20 minute walk to the JC. Then reverse it, the bus back is at 1.30pm.

Day wasted. No wonder unemployed people get depressed.

I'm not sure either whether expenses are paid, the bus is £5.50 return.

That's a bit of a shit if your signing on time is 2.30pm then isn't it?

Even if they can claim it back (I'm sure they used to be able to) they still have to have the money to shell out for the fare in the first place.

Not necessarily easy when you are signing on at the end of your fortnight when your money is likely to have pretty much all gone on living expenses.

I was under the impression the unemployed/signing on get subsidised travel fares?? Or is this not the case.

I'm not sure that they do anymore Lordyboy.

i heard they do from someone who seems to have made a career out of signing on.
