I bet Big brother spies on the drinking habits of pilots who stay overnight in hotel rooms. It's easy enough to monitor their room service requests and minibar usage.
If you are piloting say, airforce one, bet they monitor a lot more than just your drinking habits. :pmsl:

Then she said that we could help ourselves to whatever was left in the mini bar, with no charge.

I don't know if she realised but the mini bar was stocked full, with spirits, wine, beers, chocolates, fruit. I don't think it had been touched. We made the most of it; the suite was beautiful, too. To this day, I can't understand why she offered us the upgrade.

The expression 'Never look a gift horse in the mouth' springs to mind. Sounds like you did well there.

exactly, it all depends on the circumstances at the time, I've been on holidays where it's 'meh have what you like' and I've been on others where you have to watch the budget, very few people have unlimited disposable income despite what the internet leads you to believe

going back to the hated subject of cats, I have the Bengal boys who are worth a small fortune and Frank the bastard who cost nothing, I don't get any less pleasure from owning or love Frank any less just because he has less monetary value

Yeah exactly. These days we go all inclusive with the kids, just to take out all the money issues. In Mexico we upgraded so we had free room service and free minibar too. We had a set of optics too :gigglesnshit:
Back when it was just me and the man we’d do city breaks and it would depend on our situation. Usually we’d buy our own stuff in.

I'm surprised you don't just sleep in your car. what's the point of staying in a hotel and penny pinching?

What's penny pinching about it? Most people stay in a hotel to sleep, not to raid the mini bar. I often bring my own supply of what ever I'd like to drink. Why would I want to pay the exorbitant prices of a mini bar? I rather spend it on a nice dinner.

If I stay at a hotel for work it's on expenses, If I stay in a hotel on holiday It's part of the holiday experience. I eat where I want. I order what I want, I don't book into a cheap hotel to save money. If I decide I want a Pringle as one guest said With a whisky from the mini bar Then I have it. I often get room service sent to my room, my kids love to order pizza to the room I can afford and As I said it all adds to the experience of staying away from home.
Life is to short to worry about the price of a small tube of pringles while on a family vacation lol

I’ve always found mini bars, to overpriced. You get a bloody shock when you
get your bill at the end of the holiday. :yikes:

If I am on holiday then the hotel is for showering and sleeping. I like to go out and sightsee, go for a nice dinner and frequent a few pubs. No need to pay exhoribtant prices for the mini bar :more beer:

I prefer to spend my money wisely thats all :dunno:

When I use a hotel for work the mini bar is not in expenses, even if it was it doesn't look good to your employer does it?

I've stayed in hotels all over the country and many parts of the world, I can honestly say I have never used the mini bar whilst on holiday, who would do that? - if you hadn't had enough whilst out enjoying yourself before returning to your room to sleep, I mean lets face it thats all you use a room for on holiday, then there must be something wrong with you.

Also in my experience very few companies and none I've worked for would cover your mini bar expenses just as they wouldn't the hotel porn TV and as they are itemised on the bill, difficult to squeeze through as 'sundries'. Companies just don't do it because employees invaribly abuse it if they think someone else is going to pay for it.

I can remember once in the ealy 1990's turning up at our hotel (The Hilton I think) in Leeds late in the evening for a company conference the next day, dumping my stuff in the room then meeting others downstairs in the bar.

Not wanting to drink on an empty stomach I ordered a club sandwich at the bar. It looked very nice as it arrived but my the enjoyment disappeared very quickly when I was asked to pay £22.00 for it, there and then as they wouldn't add it to the room bill.

Going back to the mini bar, anyone who thought the company were going to cover the cost of room extras were quickly sobered up when it came to settling the bill on departure.

Well good for you! Not everyone is as "well off" as you are though, others are, but have better sense than wasting a lot of money on some shitty little bottles, or crap packets from the mini bar. If I bring my own, I can have exactly what I want. Make no mistake, when I go away, I have a fab time, I just spend my money on better things than a mini bar...I usually go out for lovely dinners, and on my return might have a drink or two from my own supply, which is usually champagne or maybe prosecco and/or brandy with ginger ale ( my choice of drinks ) :snooty:

ETA...don't get me wrong, I have had drinks from mini bars, they do have their uses, but only when I haven't had a chance to get my own booze and I was or am in need for a drink.
