Absolutely - how fucking annoying is that time after time - especially as my two dogs go mental at the slightest knock.

Not anymore.
Parking near shops anywhere and everywhere is a pain in the arse too.
World used to be full of antique shops but they seem to have gone as well now.
Pubs closing post offices closing banks closing newsagents closing shoe shops closing butchers and bakers going there isn't going to be much left before long.
Seems odd that in my lifetime the high st in many places will be a memory to tell the grandchildren about.

i wonder how long big retail will reign before something collapses and high street shops appear again.

I can't see how Amazon's business model
(for example) is sustainable over the long term and for how long they can carry a loss.

My local high street is in rude health and I hope there will be a resurgence of the fortunes of the high street in the next decade. The problem is commercial rent rates rather than consumer demand in my opinion. Sort those out and the local economy will flourish again.

We had a few independent shops on part of our high street. A pet shop, a skateboard gear shop (we have a skate park), a local bakers, a local travel agents, a chinese restaurant,a grocer. ASDA owned the land and have closed them all to extend their CAR PARK.

That's a good point as well. Crappy local authority planning decisions.

Quiet, except for the drunks falling about the place. There's an extortionate amount of criminal activity mostly through drink
That goes on there according the the Daily record.

There's a town near me which has a great High Street. Independent Butchers, Bakers and Candlestick Makers :gigglesnshit:

The customers walk or get the bus!

People are just too lazy to use any form of transport other than cars.

I can walk to my local shops but it would be a nightmare to walk to the Saturday morning farm shop. Don't forget that a saving of 5p on a can of beans is worth the four mile journey in some minds.

I rest my case.

It's not likely that anything will be that catastrophic in the near future though, oh wait...

I'm not really affected by the dip in high street retail sales, I buy a lot of my stuff online like a lot of people but I'm lucky enough to see the latest problems first hand, DD can back me up if it wishes (I don't know any Dalek pronouns).

There's a retail park in the middle of Bridgwater called The Leggar and it has several superstores including the likes of Argos, Sainsburys and Asda literally across the road. Next to Argos there is the shell of a brand new Marks and Spencer food hall, they have built it from the bottom up.

Sainsburys borged Argos a while ago and is probably going to do the same with Asda. The Marks and Sparks has been abandoned since last week, no fit out crews and security has fucked off. And then we have Tesco Direct being abandoned. TD is an online website that allows you to order stuff to your door or to your local Tesco for click and collect, non food stuff only. 500 jobs down the toilet as well as the amalgamation of three stores into one.

How busy is your high street, when did you last bother to visit it? I've not been into town for ages and I don't feel the need to.

What happened to this nation of shopkeepers?

I just knew someone would fuck the Legger plans up. This has all the hallmarks of Tescogate part 2 :gigglesnshit:

I'm more interested in what happened to the burger van :ooer:

Terry? He went to Madrid on Thursday afternoon and was back in his spot on Tuesday. I had one of his delicious bacon and cheeseburgers inna french stick at lunchtime :twirl:

Seems a bit daft that.
At first but then it isn't so daft when you think about it.
