Just to add.

The new box they would potentially be giving me free as part of their excellent service would be 5g compatible for a guesstimate. This iPad picks up the wifi signal from the box but won't do anything. I have to leave it switched of at the wall as to not interfere.

I'm cancelling tomorrow or Monday. Just needed to give this other service a test run and I'm happy with it.

Although the main pic will have no internet connection but used to play dvds, cds. Which can be picked up for next to nothing from charity shops. I've decided to go with that. I can't justify all this money going on media so I shall be saving £33 per month.

These people who have sky, and all the packages I dread to think what your paying out.

They have dug up my whole town!! I won't go with Virgin nor Sky.

I lost VM about a week ago. The box blew the whole of my electrics. Made them all go off and then back on again within seconds. It was then I realised the VM wasn't working. Called them and they told me it was an area fault and would be back on by the 14th. I knew my box was fucked. "Not interested it's an area fault not your box they said. Expect to get intermittent connection until the fault is fixed. But I wasn't getting intermittent connection. I wasn't getting any connection. And I told them that. But I've been patient and waited and I was right.

Anyway. Glad it happened because now I have found another solution and far cheaper with giff gaff.

Sorry but you can't argue with that. Virgin media cable knocks the socks off everything else in my area and it's not connected to a landline. :smilin:

We have Sky and virgin, IE, Sky for the tv and Virgin fiber at my parents home and we just have Sky. They are constantly going up and the deals they offer does your head in. The Sky Q box keeps on playing up and we are having it replaced.

As a user of Virgin myself, I find their broadband to be the fastest, however their customer service is absolutely shocking. When my old router packed in recently I ended up picking up its replacement from the post office and installing it myself.

If there was an alternative just as fast that wouldn't put money in Rupert Murdoch's pockets (yes, Sky) I'd snap it up.

Sky are the same. It never goes down - only up. The fuckers. I echo what others have put here, call them up (as i did a couple of weeks ago) and told them quite bluntly, that my monthly bill needed to be reduced or i'm off. I kept everything on my current picks (with the exception to access of the box sets), and voila...... down from £62.00 to £42.00 with their 'applied discounts'.

Threaten them with the i'm outta here play, and they miraculously find a way to lower your bill. :leer:

The trick with Virgin is to go on a broadband comparison website and work out who's the cheapest competitor taking into account things like one-off discounts, cashback and shopping vouchers (some companies will offer a £100 Amazon voucher if you sign up with them for a year). Armed with that knowledge you have to phone up Virgin and tell them you want to cancel. They'll ask you why and when you tell them how much cheaper you can get their service elsewhere - even if it's with a company that you maybe wouldn't touch with a bargepole like Talk Talk for instance - they'll offer you a derisory discount. When you turn that down they'll come out with some cobblers about being sorry to lose your loyal custom and tell you that your contract with them will end in four weeks. Don't panic because several days later you'll get a phone call from their retentions department who once they find out how much you'll be paying elsewhere will offer you a deal for the same amount or very slightly more. You can even negotiate for better equipment like a more up to date router or set top box for example.

Broadband companies rip off long term loyal customers something rotten so play them at their own game.

He gets given a lot of this country's infrastructure. It will all seem like good service at first and then the prices keep rising. He does this with all his businesses. The more customers the more the price increase. When it should be the other way around.

It was the the best service around here at the time. About 10 years ago. But it does say that I have until 30th September to terminate the contract. So I need to look at other providers.

The bill should be going down. Not up. With an increase of 31% of customers this past year.
