An investigation into the free school meal voucher fiasco, which left many families without food during lockdown, has found the government signed contracts worth up to £425m with a company for which there was “limited evidence” of its capacity to deliver.

The troubled scheme was set up in just 18 days and awarded to the French-owned company Edenred, despite the government’s own assessment that the company’s UK arm did not have the financial standing that would normally be required for the scale of contract, according to a report by the National Audit Office (NAO).

Thousands of parents were forced to bombard a helpline in search of missing free school meals vouchers, because a firm picked to turn the scheme lacked the IT system needed.

At the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in April – after English schools were ordered to close and poorer families promised extra help – Edenred received 8,878 emails in a single day, an investigation found.

Jack has gone through some dire financial shit while bringing up her kid and still spends less than £20 PW on a shop. It was a natural sort of partnership.

I think you mean “their kid”. they don’t like to be known as a female.

i have the cook book “A girl called Jack” which they wrote before deciding to not identify as a girl. There are some good money saving recipes in there. i do the macaroni cheese with spinach and bacon and it costs pence.

i think Marcus Rashford should have got together with her and encouraged young parents to learn to cook cheap and healthy food for their offspring much earlier rather than expecting the rest of us to feed their kids.

After correcting Stooo, you then fuck up yourself :gigglesnshit:

Ha ha you are dead right!

I suppose you don't have a problem with taxpayers paying for a useless track and trace system, useless PPI and all the other money dished out by the Tories to their mates.

Shaun Bailey would be so proud of you

K. Hopkins was a twat about her, I have no idea of her pronouns as of now and it's not really something that I'm fussed about unless I was in direct conversation or if she now professed a preference. She appears to give as much of a shit as me; it's good that they did this together.

I've run professional kitchens and you have to be realistic about a budget otherwise your GP is going to go out of the window along with your profits, this is very similar albeit on a macro scale.

Where else to post this story but on a thread about the government not wanting to give children free meals.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has defended spending almost £50,000 on takeaways for his staff from just one London restaurant during the peak of the Covid crisis.
