A high protein, low carb and natural fats is the only way to eat. Let food be thy medicine and all that..

This was very interesting....

Thanks Leggo but I have a vested interest towards type one, my son has had it for the last fifteen years and the subject is dear to my heart.

Well i do hope that these trials prove positive so that your son no longer needs to medicate himself.

Thanks for that.

For the ten years shaved off of his life expectancy he's probably gained another three thanks to good management and hygiene. Every time that you break your skin you risk an infection.

Sorry to hear that, but happy he has a father such as yourself... Hopefully this treatment will let him gain those 7 years lost and many more.

Scientists appear to have found that an absence of bacteria in some children's guts is a precursor to beta cell annihilation that is typically the onset of type one, another study is modifying yoghurt genes in a way that causes insulin to be created in the bowel rather than trying to repopulate the pancreas. Both good news in the fight against this horrible condition.

However, diets like Atkins significantly increase the risks of cardiovascular disease so they are not recommended for those already in high-risk groups.

They don't really significantly increase the risk of CV disease . 5 extra cases of heart disease developed per 10,000 people per year. That is not significant. And that can be modified by eating smarter proteins...like beans, fish, nuts. Some people go on atkins and eat greasy fatty meats every day. That certainly isn't healthy-esp for those who already have heart disease.

The British Heart Foundation has for years been opposing diets like Atkins. It has short-term benefits but can be dangerous in the long term.

There is no doubt that cardiologists think very differently now about the effects of dietary fats on cardiac health but I doubt you'd find many here in the UK who would endorse diets like Atkins.

Yes it would save my having to take 8 fricking tablets every single day

I don't have type 1 or 2 but pancreatic diabetes so this sounds perfect for me as my bouts of pancreatitis mean mine does not produce enough insulin, hence this sounds just right for me.

The human trials are about to start!

Certainly, the big difference right now is the fact that ViaCyte is in trial. Harvard plans to first finish designing its own capsule, and to try cells in primates. (ViaCyte did no primate studies.)

“We are screening our first patient now, as we speak,” said Laikind. “We expect to implant the cells in the next couple of weeks.” Forty patients will be treated in ViaCyte’s Phase 1 trial.

I spoke to my doctor about a treatment developed at an Eastbourne Hospital for High Blood Pressure. It's an actual minor surgical procedure which takes about 10 minutes, whilst fully conscious and bingo! the blood pressure drops to normal again in every test case, forever, without having to take pills ever again.

My Doctor said he'd never even heard of it- end of story - showed no more interest in what I had said.

I spoke to my son's specialist at his diabetic clinic last week and he was excited and very clued up about this new treatment.

Yeah, I suppose Diabetes is the new watch word in health these days, so I guess it will get plenty of exposure - but Hypertension is no slouch either, you'd think GP's would be more knowledgeable.

My guess is that as it's a surgical procedure the costs increase hugely - so they prefer to fill you full of cheap drugs and ignore the side effects.
