they do a summer thing where if children read a set number of books they get to go to a meet and greet with the Lady Mayor and receive a medal
they also do lots of themed events for the very little ones, whole displays around 'room on the broom', things like that

one of our weekly routines for many years was swimming and then a trip to the library, I miss that

My two love the library for that very reason. The displays are excellent. Though I’m all for anything that gets them excited about reading, if that means dragging my arse to the library, so be it

Room on the Broom is excellent. We love the Oi! Dog/frog/cat books.

it's one thing that unites the parents of pre-schoolers, those glances at each other in the library to the yells of 'NOOOO, want dinosaur book'

Do people still use libraries?... buy books even?.... I love my Kindle.... 000’s of free books too! :wubwub:

It’s funny you asked that on World Book Day

Yes, old people, young people usually with their mummies, students. For some it’s a refuge in secondary school.
They’re used less because of the net but they’re still useful.

Yeah, I get it for kids books of course.... but i’d never buy an actual paper book for myself again since having my kindle..... I took around a 100 books to the charity shop some time back.... good riddance!.... as for the library, I guess it’s an outing for some! :ooer:

where ever the lobsters go is exotic. blackpool or down the south coast is exotic. off mainland is fashionably exotic. :artist:
oh, and margate I have heard?

I've never heard Blackpool or Margate being described as exotic. :yikes:

As for 'exotic' places like Magaluf, Ibiza and the like, I never got around to doing it.

How else can I get on the internet when on holiday???????????????????????????????????????????????????????? :dunno:

I meant for books  .... there used to be Internet cafes, did you use them? :gigglesnshit:

They are still around, but no doubt on the decrease because of the increase in availability of wireless technology, i.e. more wifi hotspots, wifi on public transport etc. Similarly with public phone boxes versus mobile phones. I'm old enough to remember how we managed without all this modern technology, but I'd definitely miss the internet and also smartphones somewhat, though I still haven't got around to paying for things with my mobile, but I do use contactless technology.

That's a bit like asking if people still by CDs and DVDs?

What if the book you want is not available on Kindle for example?
