However there is another side to this problem, the prisoners that are injured can claim compensation against the Prison Authority for their injuries, last year it amounted to over £2m of the Tax Payers money,

There is also a scam where two prisoners get into a situation where one gets injured and they share the compensation money
Neither have anything to lose by it .
To wish Prisoners harm in Prison is costing the Prison Authority money !

Hello Snooks.
Two million quid is peanuts.
I remember a guy getting tangled up in the razor wire on his escape attempt and he got compo.
To me that one was crazy as surely he shouldn't be on top of the perimiter fence in the first place but ... he won his award because it is a natural impulse to attempt to escape captivity.
That was at Haverigg Cumbria early seventies.

As to the murderers, hope they never get a peaceful day for the rest of their lives, in or out of jail.

they'll have to be in isolation for their own safety. it's awful thinking of those poor children dying, i hope they knew nothing about it & died in their sleep.

I hope they never feel safe wherever they are. They don't deserve that right imo.

Child killers always get a hard time in prison.

That woman that stamped her wee daughter to death was given a terrible beating, despite the guards keeping a close eye on her and last month a man who killed his newborn daughter was murdered by an inmate.

Good, no less than they deserve. These types I never lose any sleep over.

was the killer ever caught?

Two men Thomas TC Campbell and Joe Steele were convicted and spent nearly twenty years in prison before having their convictions quashed.

Gary Moore made a deathbed confession, but a lot of people didn't believe it.

The crime was refereed to as "The Ice Cream War Murders"

One of the victims drove an Ice Cream van and he had suffered intimidation prior to the attack to give up his round.

He refused and this seems to have been the motive.

The Doyle's were a decent family and had no criminal connections.

One of the sons survived by jumping out the window (The Doyle's lived in a top floor flat) he broke both his legs)

He was holding the family dog at the time and he was unhurt.

20 years doesn't seem a lot really, does it?

i was thinking about the oldest boy who managed to escape in this tragedy as well, he is going to spend the rest of his life blaming himself for surviving when his brother & sisters died.

TC Campbell got a longer sentence than Joe Steele, because TC was a well known hardman and the police thought it was his idea.

It's terrible the crime has never been solved and by terrible badluck the Doyle's had three more family members staying with them, than usual.

Their daughter Christine was staying over with her eighteen month old baby, because Mark wanted to stay with his Gran and Granda for the night.

James Jr was staying because his wife had given birth to their first child that day.

So there was Mr and Mrs Doyle, their five sons and their daughter and the baby.

Only Mrs Doyle and two of her sons survived.

David Marshall's mum wasn't in the house, she was married and living elsewhere.
