MPs will formally debate 'sanctioning' Esther McVey in a bid to dock the Tory benefit chief's pay for a month.

Labour will lead the debate in the House of Commons chamber after Ms McVey admitted misrepresenting a critical report on her flagship benefit shake-up.

Last week the party demanded Ms McVey resign for either lying or being incompetent following her remarks about Universal Credit.

Now a rare censure motion in the Commons will ask MPs to formally say whether they have confidence in the Work and Pensions Secretary.

The motion, tabled by Labour, also calls on the government to cut her ministerial salary to zero for four weeks.

Politicians need to be sanctioned for stupid policies.

Bravo to the Conservatives for calling out the disinformation presented to the House, after all they would condemn any Labour politician for doing the same, so kudos to them. :smilin:

Will the good people of Tatton be voting for her again ?

It has a chequered record, having the idiot (now UKIP, figures) Neil Hamilton as MP for several years.

The seat largely comprises prosperous villages and small towns set amidst Cheshire countryside, featuring country parks, hills, recreation grounds and golf courses....

Not Labour territory then, so yes, sadly she will be back.

Significant black mark for Esther McVey, work and pensions sec Accused in a letter from Sir Amyas Morse, the Auditor General, of lying Her statements to MPs about universal credit were “not correct”. She has refused to see him. Her assertions “not proven”
