Watched the first two of the three episodes so far, I like it and has the makings of cult show, I reckon.
It's not 'Americanised' at all so there is some quality in the making - the storyline and characters could easily have been ruined in the wrong hands.
Just a brief outline: - So far, it's set late Victorian London and as Frosty says, is very Gothic in appearance.
Where it could have fallen down is, in the inclusion of various fictional characters from Victorian gothic literature, Victor Frankenstein and Dorian Gray for instance... but it doesn't as - so far at least - these are peripheral to the main story, of an Aristocrat English Lord and explorer Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and his enigmatic lady 'aide' Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) searching for his lost daughter - who has been 'taken' by some ancient vampirical creature.
We are waiting to see if down on his luck 'Wild West Showman' Ethan Chandler (Josh Harknett) will join them on the quest, though he appears to have been side lined for the moment by a tryst with Irish prostitute Brona Croft (Billy Piper)....there is more to come from this pairing, I think.
It's gritty and atmospheric with an excellent cast.....you could do worse than get into this one, even if it's not your usual 'genre'.... I'm sure this show has got legs - and I'm looking forward to watching the 3rd episode later.
