What a lovely thread.

I posted my opinions on Laurel and Hardy on DS shortly before I got banned - in short they were by far the greatest comedy due by light years and their films are still as fresh, funny and touching today as when they were first made.

I have not had time to look at all the links so forgive me if this has already been posted.

As a horror fan I just love it. :wurms: :pmsl:

How many of today's comedians will still be funny in the 22nd century?

Stan and Ollie will be forever. :more beer:

Aye Stan and Ollie are the best comedy duo of all time.

They were both lovely men, off screen as well. :wubbers:

Agreed Vicki, I'm not one to laugh out loud but I do at their antics.

There is absolutely no one in their league.

A new film coming out :yess:

Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly are set to play Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in Jon S. Baird’s movie “Stan & Ollie.”

“Philomena” writer Jeff Pope has written the script for the project, which was developed by BBC Films and will be produced by Faye Ward’s Fable Pictures and Pope’s Sonesta Films.

Pope said: “Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are my heroes. When I watch their movies, in my head it is forever a Saturday morning and I am six years old watching the TV at home utterly spellbound.

“I am aware of the huge responsibility of bringing their characters to life, but I have not treated the boys with kid gloves or looked at them through rose-colored specs. They are living and breathing characters, with flaws and shortcomings.

Jimmy Finlayson appeared in a lot of Stan and Ollie's films, he was another very funny man.

Lovely stuff and he was the man who made 'Doh!' so bloody funny many decades before Homer Simpson.

Just looking at photos of his face makes me laugh! :pmsl:

I think I posted that somewhere on here before Vicky.

It's so very poignant - they will never be a comedy double act to to touch them, they were/are light years ahead of anybody else.
