Our right wing politicians have hated the miners for many a long year, Tom. The Tories would rather the lights go out than subsidise British jobs in British coal mines. They would rather pay double for Russian gas.

Labour closed more mines than tories.
Coal is a dirty fuel. Do you think we should burn coal rather than gas?

Labour didn't close mines out of sheer spite, they closed them when the seams ran out, or mines became dangerous due to gas or water ingress - and in complete agreement with the miners themselves and the miner's union.
Coal is a much cleaner fuel these days. New technologies reduce emissions, but there are other reasons that coal might be at least as good and safe fuel as gas. Natural gas produces less carbon dioxide per unit energy than coal does, making it appear at first glance as a cleaner fuel. But natural gas is predominantly composed of methane, a much more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Coal is definitely back in the game, at least in the near future until nuclear and renewables take over.
The point is, we are running out of gas, and importing more and more. Meanwhile we sit on considerable stocks of unmined coal.

Good question.
Why do they believe known liars and believe fake news sites like the Heil and Breitbart?

Our miners were producing a greater tonnage per hour than anyone else but German coal was subsidized by the government making it impossible to compete.calitom wrote:Cannydc wrote:calitom wrote:Rolluplostinspace wrote:Rees Mogg as prime minister the mines will reopen and the miners will all be on minimum wage and living in tied cottages.

I have no opinion on your so called conservatives in the uK. I know nothing about them.
But 'propping up' an industry on a permanent basis is no way to run any economy. Better to make trade agreements
fair and open(which I DO give credit to labor for supporting) so your own energy industry is treated fairly and not undercut.
If conservatives werent supporting FAIR trade then i gotta criticize your conservatives.

the ad hom. So you have exhausted your political argument and assumed the personal attacks.
A link to support your points may help you achieve some credibility but not from evolve or morning star canary etc.

What Germany were doing was illegal but that didn't seem to matter.
We should have done what Gemany did .... worked for them.
