Yes guys. The temperature plummets in the evenings. It's going to be a repetition of last year.

He must've left the sunroof open lol..

Last year's winter was one of the worst I'd seen,I remember looking at the satelite pictures of the UK and it was one massive block of snow.. I also remember a couple of years ago, when the snow was like a fine dry powder almost like sand...bloody freezing cold that year too.

With fuel prices rising the way they have, if we do have a big freeze it is going to cause untold problems for the elderly especially.

Do you think fuel companies should cap their prices for the elderly in this type of scenario if it happens?

They should but won't. They will say the old ones get fuel allowances....... but what of the ones who don't get them and can barely afford to heat a room, never mind a full home? Pissed me off the other day when I read of people buying loads of oil and sitting on it until the prices of oil rose enough for them to make a greedy fat profit on the backs of the poor!
Turn off Westminster's heating, let those gits freeze.

Winter is meant to be cold, it's winter.

It does bring to mind the thought of natural selection, we all have to go sometime.

A lot of deaths happen after Christmas but that has more to do with making it through the season rather than the weather.

Having said that, I don't want to see poor little old ladies or men die of the cold! :shake head:

Yeah, I love it. Especially snow. :canny:

I like all the seasons, when they're doing what they're supposed to.

I live in a warm part of the UK that is full of old people, very few if any die from the cold in fact there's a surge at certain times of the year. The onset of summer kills far more, look at France last year.

I don't like it suddenly getting cold like this week but I like the snow we had last year. :twirl:

And our winters aren't that cold. There are seasons for when people pass away and it's not really reliant on the weather.

Social factors seem more prevalent and of course the flu season is significant.

Is it just hype that more old people die in cold winters?

Mad Dogs and Englishmen
(Noel Coward)

In tropical climes there are certain times of day
When all the citizens retire,
to tear their clothes off and perspire.
It's one of those rules that the biggest fools obey,
Because the sun is much too sultry and one must avoid
its ultry-violet ray --
Papalaka-papalaka-papalaka-boo. (Repeat)
Digariga-digariga-digariga-doo. (Repeat)
The natives grieve when the white men leave their huts,
Because they're obviously, absolutely nuts --

Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
The Japanese don't care to, the Chinese wouldn't dare to,
Hindus and Argentines sleep firmly from twelve to one,
But Englishmen detest a siesta,
In the Philippines there are lovely screens,
to protect you from the glare,
In the Malay states there are hats like plates,
which the Britishers won't wear,
At twelve noon the natives swoon, and
no further work is done -
But Mad Dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.

I always liked old Noels sense of humour, it gets above 27c and we start dropping like flies. :thud:

People die after Christmas, they hold on for their own reasons and simply stop trying after. A last Christmas with people you love around you is something to live for, a bleak February when you're ill, tired and ready to depart this veil of tears doesn't seem like an aspiration of sorts. Sometimes people simply give up.

The majority of deaths are in nursing homes and palliative care units in Hospitals, very few people die alone at home nowadays. They die when they are ready in the care of others.
