Non-Lethal weapons in the UK

Non-Lethal weapons in the UK

Postby perro » Mon Oct 03, 2011 11:56 pm

Should the UK legalize non-lethal weapons for purchase by the general public? Not firearms, things like electric stun-guns and pepper spray.

Isn't their potential for abuse offset by their ability to protect people (especially vulnerable ones) from violent assault? Isn't it better that people carry things like this than creating home-made weapons that may be even more likely to cause death or serious injury? And if these weapons do find their way into the hands of criminals, is that so bad? Isn't it better to be mugged with a stun gun which causes only temporary effects, than knifed in the ribs?

Yeah, I guess it's a rerun. I''m kind of taking the site for a spin. Throw this out, see what I get.

I don't really understand the law against non-lethal weapons. I'm just not seeing the upside.

It seems a lot of it is down to the juries. How tolerant are they of "robust" self defense.

You think the attitude of the British public toward this sort of thing is changing?

Mostly due to the riots or just a long progression?

My wife e-mailed me this :pmsl: :pmsl: :pmsl:

With gun laws being a little stricter in the UK, the weapon of choice for day to day murdering can often be found in the kitchen. That's why the first anti-stab knife is now ready for sale there.

As the designer notes:
Mr Cornock, 42, from Swindon, said that the knife will cut vegetables, but will make it almost impossible to stab someone to death and will reduce the risk of accidental injuries.

He said: "It can never be a totally safe knife, but the idea is you can't inflict a fatal wound. Nobody could just grab one out of the kitchen drawer and kill someone.

Do your cops have stun guns? They can immobalise anybody from a safe distance though I don't think the public should have them. A lot of women carry pepper spray to defend themselves but if your not allowed that, there are some perfumes that can be just as effective and a cop would just ignore it if he saw it in her purse :bawlin: :nelix: :brickwall:

Yes 98% of police in the US carry stun guns (we call them Tasers), and about 100% carry a (Capsicum/Pepper spray).

My wife carries a S&W (Smith and Wesson) .357 revolver, and a Capsicum spray that does look like ...ermmmm A perfume bottle. :leer:

Let the abuse come :doomed:

I think there's a difference between a Tazer and a Stun-gun. A tazer shoots out a little dart connected to a wire and can be used at a distance. A stun-gun must be placed against the subjects body to have an effect.

I wonder how long it will be until those "anti-stab knives" become mandatory, and old fashioned pointy knives are made illegal?

Yes he would.

Shooting people in the back is always going to get you time in chokey.

No matter what form of low life they may be, killing them as they attempt to flee isn't the answer.

Trinity; my question "can your cops carry tazers" was actually directed to the UK posters. I'm well aware what North American police are armed with because I live in Canada. :Hiya:

Does anyone have a problem staying logged on? Everytime I click on to ANYTHING I have to login again? :grrrrr:
