The Government is being urged to scrap a 'death tax' set to be included in the Health and Social Care Bill, which could cost bereaved relatives £170.

Under the clause, they would have to pay councils between £130 and £170 for new teams of officials to check the causes of death on certificates, under plans to improve the quality and accuracy of death statistics.

The method of collecting cause of death information in England and Wales is already among the best in the world.

It would cost taxpayers another £83 million a year....

Why would they need to do this? Causes of death are verified by two Doctors nowadays because of the Shipman case, the quality and accuracy is fine as it is.

Hello Pot!! I feel sorry for you Canny as your memory is clearly failing.
Had New Labour been able to fix us up with a meter to measure respiration in order to tax us on our annual air intake they most certainly would of because they encroached on most aspects of our daily lives and taxed it ,so thank god air remained free.
The reason they taxed us to the hilt was to pay for their profligacy and we all know that their out of control spending is why we are now in the shite.

I now await the Parrot-Like retort "Labour were not responsible for the world wide crash" and I do agree however domestically we all know they taxed us to the hilt to pay for their overspending and out of control borrowing domestically and that is undeniable,so when the proverbial hit the fan we were fucked.

The useless bunch in power now are merely flailing around trying their best to pay for that profligacy by any means necessary and the fact they now want to tax the bereaved is beyond the pale. How tactless.

However,had your precious party not been so spendthrift when in power and had managed to reign in there there borrow tax and spend for idiotic policies then the current government would not even be here now trying to sort out your mess because Labour would still be in power.

You really do need to start being honest because you only ever quote that which makes Labour look good and the rest bad and as such you never ever give a balanced view.
