True Fenella but how many people know how the Shoah began when the Nazis first came into power.

The Nazis didn't start with death camps, or with ghettos, or with race laws, or with yellow stars - they started by saying that new Jewish immigrants from Poland weren't to receive the same health benefits as everyone else. That's right they cut off healthcare to some immigrants - great oaks from tiny acorns ....

It was a gradual thing, I know that - it didn't just happen during the war. There wasn't a sudden decision to kill all the Jews in Germany and the annexed countries. A lot of people probably just think that Hitler hated Jews because he was racist or whatever and they don't look further back than that, but there was anti-Jewish feeling further back - he couldn't have done it on his own.

"The Wannsee Conference was a meeting of senior officials of the Nazi German regime, held in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee on 20 January 1942. The purpose of the conference was to inform administrative leaders of Departments responsible for various policies relating to Jews, that Reinhard Heydrich had been appointed as the chief executor of the "Final solution to the Jewish question". I read somewhere that when initially pondering the Jewish question Hitler was actually thinking of making a homeland for them too but it seems that idea was quickly placed in file 13.
