2011 2nd warmest on record

2011 2nd warmest on record

Postby Cannydc » Fri Dec 30, 2011 6:46 pm

This year was the second warmest on record for the UK, the Met Office says.

Provisional figures show that only 2006, with an average temperature of 9.73C (49.5F), was warmer than 2011's average temperature of 9.62C (49.3F).

Just saying... :fire:

The longest continuous temperature record is the Hadley Centre's Central England Temperature series. It starts around 1850.

I am happy to buy into FACTS.

And it is a FACT that we are experiencing a warming cycle, as seen by many of the hottest years average temperatures occuring in the last 20 years or so....

That isn't sensationalist, it is happening, as seen by a general movement and / or blurring of our seasons.

Yeah but our climate has always changed and that of the world. Sometimes very rapidly.

That's fine, Stooo.

I have deliberately avoided mentioning Global Warming or Climate Change.

But both do seem to be happening, and my guess is that stopping them is far, far beyond the power of man.

Or the creation of. I find it incredibly arrogant to think that mere bacteria like the human race can influence the way that a millions years old eco system operates.

If the icecap melts, it seems certain that cold water will flood across the Gulf Stream, and stop it dead.

Which will actually reduce average temperatures in the UK considerably, as our predominant airflow is Westerly across the warm Gulf Stream waters...

It's recorded that the Romans had vinyards in Northumbria.

It's recorded that the Thames regularly froze solid enough for people to hold ice fairs on it, as recent as 1814.

It's what the earth does, we are lucky it is so dynamic, otherwise we'd be a lifeless dust bowl like Mars.

Man has attained his place at the top of the tree, because he can adapt to the changes Earth throws our way every few millenia.
