Banned driver killed teenage passenger

The distraught family of a 17-year-old girl killed by a disqualified drink-driver who lied about being behind the wheel have branded his prison sentence 'a joke'.

Banned Zahoor Hussain, 25, was driving his father's Mini Cooper at 50mph on a 30mph road when he lost control causing the death of his friend and back-seat passenger Zoe Smith,17.
Despite being the driver of the car when the car crashed in St Georges, Bristol, Hussain phoned her mother and told her he wasn't behind the wheel.
Hussain, from Almondsbury, South Glocs, had already racked up three previous convictions for driving while disqualified yet still got behind the wheel while serving a drink-drive ban, on September 6, 2010.

At Bristol Crown Court on Friday, Recorder of Bristol Judge Neil Ford QC jailed Hussain for 32 months and disqualified him from driving for five more years.

But as he has already served 126 days, Hussain could be released on licence in about 14 months, when half his term is up.

After the hearing, Zoe's mother Karen Pope, 41, said: 'I think the sentence is a joke.'

Yes, these deaths are treated far too lightly by courts

A JEALOUS girlfriend has been jailed after causing the death of a pedestrian as she engaged in a car pursuit with her lover who she believed was cheating on her, police said today.

Claire Johnson, 25, a teacher, of Locks Road, Locks Heath, was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court to two years after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

The accident in Park Road, Portsmouth, caused the death of 22-year-old scaffolder Matthew Bailey from Gosport.

The boyfriend, Russell Bennett, 24, formerly of Brock Close, Whiteley, but now living in Birmingham, was sentenced to 14 months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

A teenage driver has been convicted of killing a pedestrian while reading a text message behind the wheel.

Keisha Wall, 19, of Alston Walk, Caversham, denied causing the death of pensioner Christine Lyon by dangerous driving in Forbury Road.

But a jury at Reading Crown Court yesterday convicted Wall by a majority verdict.

Mrs Lyon, 63, from Maidenhead, died at the scene on February 4, last year, as Wall’s black Suzuki Jimny mounted the pavement and struck her in the chest. Wall was driving and her driving instructor mother was in the front passenger seat.

During the trial, the jury heard Wall had been sent the text message – “If you can think of something to do, we will do it” – at 12.39.04pm.

The first 999 call to the ambulance service was timed at 12.40.06pm.

She took the phone into Reading Crown Court, before she was jailed for two and a half years...

Seems about 12 - 15 months in jail after remission is average.

Shameful. All drivers are in charge of a lethal weapon, if they use it to kill, they should get a minimum of Life as per murder, and serve at least 10 years.

=====================================================================================================================

Disqualified him???? he already had 3 previous convictions for driving while disqualified so do they really think this scum bag who is a danger to society will actually take any notice?

The whole family should be banned from driving, that way the father will not be able to lend him his car, the father should be done too, he must have known his son has been disqualified and yet still lent him his car. How many other times did he let him drive it? he is equally to blame. or did the son steal his fathers car? if he did then bang him up for another 15 years for theft, that should sort out the soft sentence for murder!
