how much has membership cost us all over the years Stoo?
and not just the direct financial cost
what about the indirect costs?

more folk competing for work costs, with less security, lower wages, lower conditions
more folk needing homes costs, with higher rents, higher house prices
then theres the everyday rises in the cost of living

to me
the entire EU Project
has just seen the levelling of standards across the EU
but instead of everyone being raised to the highest level
its actually been a mechanism to lower the richer nations standards

and lets not forget that old Democracy chestnut mate
a vote to remain, was a vote to throw away yet more democratic power

and that's just daft
I'm just a boy, whos intentions are good.................

No idea, how much did we gain since we were the sick man of Europe in the 70's?

High rents and house prices are due to national economic conditions and allowing the Chinese and Russians to buy up new builds and sometimes large percentages of new estates. Don't get me started on price rises, we are all paying £600 more a year for our kit and things are getting worse:
The Brexit vote has caused a significant rise in prices, especially food

Also we're pretty much at full employment and:
‘Food is rotting in the fields’ - NFU deputy president Minette Batters demands urgent action on seasonal labour shortfall

Let alone the 90% increase in qualified professionals leaving the NHS

to me
the entire EU Project
has just seen the levelling of standards across the EU
but instead of everyone being raised to the highest level
its actually been a mechanism to lower the richer nations standards

Except, we are no longer the fourth or even fifth largest economy thanks to that wretched vote

A vote to leave took away democratic power, we used to elect our MEP's who (if they turned up) were able to represent their constituencies. Don't start with that unelected bureaucrat nonsense, when was the last time that a post in the Civil Service was filled after the decision of a national vote?

Europe has it's problems but we're fucked.

At least we'll have um, fish, something about sugar, blue passports and the fact that we will have to obey EU rules without any representation if we want to buy and sell at inflated tariffs to countries on our borders.

BREXIT BOMBSHELL: What happens to £20 TRILLION held in British banks if EU laws fail?hat according to the Prudential Regulation Authority job losses at banks and insurers could reach 10,000 on the first day of Brexit.

A no deal Brexit may also make it illegal for a UK insurer to pay out on a policy held by a European customer after Brexit.

Woods told the Financial Times: “ By far the best fix would be for something to be included in the withdrawal agreement. There would have to be bilateral agreement to fix this on both sides.”

He said that both the UK and the EU need to deal with this factor to avoid this damaging consequence if the deal is issued in a unilateral sense.

Some of us did try to take a peep, despite the poisonous fog of false propaganda and fake nationalistic guff put up by the Leave side.

We forecast job losses (tick)

We forecast a drop in the value of the pound (tick)

We forecast companies doing a runner to EU bases (tick)

We forecast higher interest rates (tick)

We forecast loss of vital joint EU / UK scientific research projects (tick)

And we forecast higher prices of imported goods (tick)

All of which was poo-pooed by the Leave side and labelled Project Fear. Sadly, Project Fear is becoming Project Fact.

And as for the negotiations - remember how easy it was all going to be (Liam Fox) ? How the EU could whistle for their money (Boris the Clown) ?

aint got a clue
its a lifetime ago bruv, and don't really matter do it

you're right Stoo, but even the most ardent European Englishman must admit that the huge increase In population has made all this shyte worse
and yes, I know
half of the new folk are from outside the EU
but our rulers are using this to make us all poorer, no matter where we're born, as if that matters imho

Also we're pretty much at full employment and:
‘Food is rotting in the fields’ - NFU deputy president Minette Batters demands urgent action on seasonal labour shortfall

Except, we are no longer the fourth or even fifth largest economy thanks to that wretched vote

and nor should we be
we should be bloody comfortable, with "our" wealth spread more evenly, but we are tiny, we shouldn't rule or police the bloody world
and only have what we have, or had what we had, cos we was the best, most clever and ruthless empire builders
sadly, us peasants never really benefitted from that, the odd good rich soul apart,
but the worlds changing, and for the better, with hopefully, us peasants actually being governed by folk like us
its gonna be a long painful road
but at least we're going in the right direction
even with a few dodgy left and right turns along the way
and lets not forget that old Democracy chestnut mate

"A vote to leave took away democratic power"
as Eddie once said
GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE

even IF every one of our MEP's were like me and you
good half decent folk
they would still get outvoted by the MEP's of 27 other nations
they are powerless
and considering 17 of these other nations and their MEP's take more than they put in

how on earth could our MEPs win any vote, when it comes to not keep raising the various contributions we HAVE to make???
the germans dictate it
using money instead of bullets this time
and we just helped them pay for it

as I say
a vote to remain, imho, was a daft thing
a throwing away of what little real democracy we have been afforded by the establishment
we can at least start to try and improve things here
by using our numbers to demand decency fairness and a better, fairer society
that's worth far more than 600 sovs mate
I'm just a boy, whos intentions are good.................

The amount we pay in is based on one thing, Mark.

Our GDP.

So, as other countries increase their GDPs (e.g. Poland +3.5%, Bulgaria +4% etc this year) they pay more in - or get less out.

It isn't a case of 'getting outvoted' at all, as is the case with most EU policy decisions. In fact, official EU voting records show that the British government has voted ‘No’ to laws passed at EU level on 56 occasions, abstained 70 times, and voted ‘Yes’ 2,466 times since 1999.... In other words, UK ministers were on the “winning side” 95% of the time, abstained 3% of the time, and were on the losing side 2%.

If you want to find an issue with this, perhaps you should ask why Cameron and the Tories felt fit to include drugs and prostitution in our official GDP figure.

On the other hand, I suppose that as the nett largest users, they felt obliged. Just meant that we pay more as a country.

Canny
as always mate, your points are valid
BUT

we cant affect real change here
whilst in the EU
our bastard Govts have blamed them for ALL our ills, for decades
whilst depriving us of the many good things of membership

well, they cant no more
so lets hold them truly accountable
then unite and replace them

it may never happen
but at least we can try
rather than just keep sitting back and gulping it all down

"our bastard Govts have blamed them for ALL our ills, for decades whilst depriving us of the many good things of membership"

Can't argue with that, Mark.

We were never proper members, always with our noses pressed against the window gazing in and moaning about non-existent bent cucumbers etc.

My sorrow is for the youngsters who may never enjoy the benefits of free movement and a massive jobs market, instead they will be paying extra taxes for many years to come to pay for our 'freedom'.

A freedom which to me looks like an miserable isolationalist hell wrought by those least likely to suffer it.

Having had a hand in the process (a very small hand but eye opening for me), the system will not change. Did you have a vote on your potential party representative at the last election? I did and I voted for the candidate who had a chance of getting in and I did that because I'm a party member. What say did you have about the people elected by their parties in your region? I'm guessing none.

So you have a bunch of people running for election who are voted for by their local parties (the people that they think could win it rather than people who agree with with the elector's personal views) to represent you if they win that election. You have had no say in who potentially represents you but rather rely on the stuff that you glance at on the way to the recycle bin rather than looking a bit deeper into the smoke and mirrors of politics.

Come on Mark.
