The American doctor that came over to the UK is called Michio Hirano and he works as a Neurologist at the Columbia University Medical Centre in New York.

OK, so he's not an herbalist at the Topeka holistic clinic.

I don't see the harm in letting the parents move the child. At least not 6 months ago when they first wanted to.

Moving him will kill him. He's already very brain damaged, deaf and blind, he has constant seizures and is on a ventilator. Moving him between life support systems will be fatal and hardly a death with dignity

Now it might. 6 months ago an air ambulance could have had the kid in NY without a hitch. I know people used to the the famed care provided by the NHS might have a hard time understanding this, but there are doctors and hospitals here able to provide adequate care. It's not like the parents wanted to take the kid to the jungles of Borneo for bloodletting.

Charlie Gard's fate could be decided today after a last minute change to the court schedule.

The court had been expecting to hear two full days of evidence, but instead of starting today at 10am, it will start this afternoon at 2pm.

The whole thing has turned into a media circus and I think it's disgusting, the doctors who've been treating this wee boy have been receiving death threats.

Not to mention the families of the other youngsters inside GOSH being harassed by members of "Charlie's Army"

Let the wee lad die with dignity.

What I would like to know, is who made this into this ridiculous media circus? Sadly there are children born sick and dying every single day and no one other than the families ever care or know about it...this is really weird, it just goes to show what a weird race the humans really are.

I've no idea what's caused all this media attention Holls.

Crowds outside the court, death threats to doctors, the American President and the Pope getting involved.

I've never seen anything like it.

Has anyone seen any of the "Charlie's Army" groups on Facebook?

Some of them are bordering on hysteria and are encouraging people to phone GOSH and contact the Queen.

Just some of their avatars..

People are now referring to him as "Our little Charlie" and are "Crying their eyes out" as they post.

Some of Charlie's supporters are getting all dolled up, before setting off to protest outside either GOSH or the court.

It smacks of :attentionwhore: and with a bit of luck, i might get myself on the television or in one of the newspapers.

Oh and of course, i really, really care, about what happens to this terminally ill baby.

This is seriously foked up :off head: ...and the Americans getting involved is a bloody joke...like someone over on DS said...they should be talking, 31 US states have the death penalty for crying out loud, I wonder how many innocent people they have executed over the years
...yet here is a very, very sick child that will never have any kind of life and they want him to live so he can carry on suffering...unbelievable.

The American's are unbelievable and one even said if "The Judge decides GOSH should be allowed to murder Charlie"

They seem to forget these doctors and specialists have done everything they can for this baby and have decided switching off his life support is for the best.

I wonder how they would like to live a life in darkness, with no sound and never being able to move.

A combination of the Pro-life crowd and those using it to bash the NHS (especially Americans opposed to universal healthcare).

It a dumb argument to use against the NHS considering similar cases happen in America as well (eg Terri Schiavo)

I've had another read of the Charlie's Army USA Facebook page and basically the only posts that are allowed are posts that slag off GOSH and the British courts.

Charlie Gard's parents have ended their legal fight.

They said time has ran out for Charlie.

Here is the problem, through the lens of an American. Our children are our children, and if we have the means, we can treat them where we like. We can treat them locally, across the country if we don't like the local care, or we can fly them across the world.

I think the initial circus was started when the parents were told that you can't move your child to another facility in a different country. Had that happened, the boy would have been treated, and mostly likely dead by now, however the parents could say they went to the ends of the earth to save their son. There is something very Orwellian about the government telling parents where they can receive care for their child.

Reducing it down to 'the gubmint' is disingenuous. The people making the decision here were the medical experts entrusted with caring for this child and as always with these cases you have to balance out the families wishes with what is considered best by those with far better understanding than us. In this case they clearly thought prolonging his situation for an untested experimental procedure (the doctor himself admited as such) which would have next to zero chance of improving things wasn't in the child's best interest.

After all the parents in this case thought they were doing whats best and ended up killing their child

Would it be orwellian for the 'Government' to step in and prevent this sadistic shyte :dunno:
