Don't Join The British Army If You're Scottish..

A former soldier has been told he can no longer be treated by specialists at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham who specialise in military injuries, because he's SCOTTISH.

Callum Brown who's 28 and lives in Ayr is still in horrific pain after he lost both legs six years ago in Afghanistan.

The decision to deprive him of treatment at the hospital could cost him his life, because none of the hospitals in Scotland can provide the treatment he needs.

So the powers that be don't mind the Scots getting blown up while serving with the British Army, but access to specialist treatment won't be available to them.

This could put a lot off Scots joining the British Army.

I was reading comments about this elsewhere and this one stood out "Well you lot wanted independence and this a taste of what it's going to be like"

We had a referendum on independence and the majority of Scots voted NO!!

The ignorance is astonishing.

If refugees, who've just arrived in the UK can be treated on the NHS in England, then so should a former solider who's lived here all his life.

The story isn't true. The NHS trust has to claim the costs back from NHS in Scotland, which they do. His treatment hasn't stopped.

'The trust who run the hospital said: “University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust have arranged two more follow-up appointments to determine the effectiveness of Mr Brown’s latest cycle of treatment.

“If he needs further treatment within the trust, we would need to seek pre-approved funding from NHS Scotland.”

and

'NHS Ayrshire and Arran Medical Director, Dr Alison Graham, said: “NHS Ayrshire & Arran is committed to funding and supporting Mr Brown’s ongoing treatment, be that in Scotland or elsewhere.

“We are in discussion with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundations Trust regarding this.”'

Amazing how the truth can be gleaned from a simple call to the right people.

If only editors were less likely to print first and ask questions later, in a desperate attempt to sell a few more of their tawdry rags.

This is a huge problem with the PCT system.
