A seaside town was reportedly in "lockdown" on Saturday night as disorder forced pubs and bars in the resort to shut.
Venues in Cromer, Norfolk, said they had closed early due to "local events".
Cromer Pier posted on social media to say its theatre bar was closing "on the advice of police".
Norfolk Police said extra officers were on patrol "following reports of low-level disorder" but stressed that accounts of a stabbing were unfounded.
Residents said a group of people had been fighting in the town, which they described as "in lockdown".
North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb tweeted: "Very concerned by what I've read online tonight.
"Of course happy to support people in Cromer in any way I can."

In a statement on its Facebook page, Cromer Pier said: "On advice from the police, the Theatre Bar is closed to the public this evening as are all the other public houses in Cromer.
"Apologies for any inconvenience whilst we support our local police in bringing a difficult situation in the town under control."
The town's Red Lion hotel tweeted: "Please be aware the Red Lion is closing early this evening due to local events in the past 24 hours."
Another pub, The Wellington, tweeted: "We will not be opening our doors tomorrow. Hopefully normal service will resume on Monday."
Norfolk Police said extra officers were on patrol "to provide reassurance to the local community".
The force added: "We have additional resources in Cromer tonight following reports of low-level disorder earlier today.
"We are aware licensees of local pubs have taken the decision to close this evening."

The move coincided with the arrival of a group of travellers who set up camp in the town’s Runton Road car park.

Storm in a teacup - usual over-reaction by our great British public.

A girl was raped in Cromer on Friday night which may or may not be connected with the gypsies.

Last night all the pubs and bars had to close as gypsies were going into premises and causing trouble and not paying for drinks. This is very unfair on local small businesses as this is their peak season.

They have been throwing things off the cliffs, littering, shouting abuse at people and generally being very antisocial. They took over a complete car park at wells next the sea last week causing traffic chaos, they moved on to Sheringham an de did the same now it says Cromer turn.

Just off to Cromer to dump garden rubbish and visit an elderly relative so will report back.

Storm in a teacup? Having a load of gypsies roll up and attempt to turn your town into a shithole?

If you hate British people so much and their historic ways, I suggest you fuck off.

Stop oppressing the gypsies. Thieving, trespassing and leaving shit everywhere is all part of their proud culture. We must celebrate the diversity they bring to our towns.

Even as ultra liberal bagheads go, this one is particularly thick as fuck. Please, go up to some travellers and call them British then see what happens to you.

Hopefully a bunch of travellers set up camp in your back garden, I'm sure you'd welcome them with open arms :pmsl:

It's because they are Gypsies that they are so hated it's because of their behaviour toward the environment more than anything else.
Other peoples environments because they aint staying for it to be theirs.
If Monsanto ICI Tesco the banks turned up in your area and decimated the land and waterways there would be mass protests.
Whats so different when these people turn up and do it every time?
What makes these environmental destroyers different enough to warrant sympathy and support?
What?

I'm going to do a Markey on this (hopefully easier to read).

Many moons ago in another life I ran a pub on the outskirts of North London and it was a big place. One Saturday afternoon I watched hundreds of caravans being towed towards the local common by Transits, great. We had a local pubwatch scheme going and none of us were going to close, they were there because their 'King' was dying in a local hospital and they were turning up to pay their respects.

That night we got swamped by Gypsies but they were treated as any other customer. After an hour or so I went into the crowd and asked to talk to the local 'Kings' (two guys and a woman), and got their assurance that any trouble would be internally policed and that they were welcome, condolences etc.

They stayed on the common for three days and we had zero thefts and no violence.

Now we KNOW you're a troll with a hatred of Brits. Well done canny.

Two pubs were smashed up, so the rest of them closed to prevent their businesses also being smashed up by these pikey bastards. Which to all intelligent people was the sensible decision.

And Canny blames the Brits for "over reacting ...

Just been to Cromer and there's no sign of them on the cliff car park. There were 2 large camper vans on there which may or may not have been gypsies. They all come in these huge top of the Range camper vans now not vans and trailers. Loads of rubbish left behind but they seem to have moved on so watch out Great Yarmouth as they seem to be moving down the coast. As I said Wells has had them, Sheringham and Cromer so it will be another towns turn soon! Plenty of police still about.

Our MP Norman Lamb was just on the radio saying the weekends events were "intolerable."

The owner of the Indian restaurant in Cromer is on video saying they were "worse than Animals."

Lots of small businesses lost a lot of money yesterday.

I bet they didn't even pay to park on the car park either .... if we locals are a few minutes over, we get a parking ticket!

Sounds like this was a " Knee Jerk"over reaction by the Police and the business community

Police now state there were a few minor episodes one of which was when a pub closed up its shutters and refused to serve customers and told them to get out of the Pub, regardless of whether they were travellers or holidaymakers
The allegations that someone was stabbed was unfounded

The police are saying that today but yesterday they were the ones who Ordered the lockdown.

They're are now underplaying it because they dare not even speak to them let alone arrest anybody. Refusing to pay for drinks, abusingpeople, shoplifting, aggressive behaviour, littering, non payment for parking and not one single arrest was made this weekend. They go for easy targets not big, rough, foul mouthed gypsies with their mates all hanging around with their knuckles raised ready for a fight.

How would you feel if you lost a days takings at the busiest time of the year through no fault of your own?

Quite so.

But you can guarantee that as soon as gypsies / travellers are mentioned on here, our equivalent of "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" (Rubbish Dumper of Cromer) and her attendant 'rabid righties' jump on it like a starving dog on a bone.

Whether they have the full facts or not - mostly not.

p.s. to Rubbish Dumper of Cromer - did you have a word with the estate agent who tried to rip you off for £20k by undervaluing your mother's house ? Seems it's common practice when sales are slow.
