Corbyn Wins International Peace Prize

Corbyn Wins International Peace Prize

Postby Stooo » Mon Dec 11, 2017 5:55 pm

On Friday, after his landmark speech in Geneva, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was awarded with a highly prestigious International peace prize.

...

Along with political activist and historian Noam Chomsky, Corbyn was handed the Sean McBride Peace Prize – a prestigious award dedicated to the memory of peace campaigner Sean MacBride, a Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1974.

Corbyn was handed the prestigious award for his ‘sustained and powerful political work for disarmament and peace’, and, unlike almost all other mainstream Western politicians, for looking for ‘alternatives to war’.

Excellent. Justly rewarded for his lifelong dislike of violence and intimidation. :canny:

The Nobel peace prize is as appropriate as the Saudi's heading up the human rights commission. The corrupt like to award themselves something that will 'convince' the public of their 'good intentions'.

Deception all around us. :shake head:

"Sean MacBride joined the IRA aged 13 and was imprisoned several times for his activities with the group - but became its chief of staff by the age of 24.

In 1937 he broke with the IRA and qualified in law, defending defended IRA prisoners who had been condemned to death.
He began his political career in 1946 by founding the Clann na Poblachta party, and was later the Minister for External Affairs for Ireland.

He was also vice president of the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation, and was responsible for Ireland not joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato).

Mr MacBride retired from politics in 1961 and was a founding member of Amnesty International and a president of the International Peace Bureau.
He had several appointments for the United Nations and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1974. Mr MacBride died in Dublin in 1988."

A great man of peace. Mr Corbyn will be proud to have been awarded a prize bearing his name.

Quite so - men of peace should be embraced not scorned - we have so few.

Oh dear it seems he LIED to parliment during the house of commons inquiry he said he did not meet paul eisen the holocaust denier after he outed himself as such. This is a lie. He did meet paul eisen after eisen had outed himself as a holicaust denier.

So it seems this peace prize is limited. Anti semitic holocaust denial is not a bar to winning.

I would rather have someone in charge who wins peace prizes as opposed to someone who seems to think that staggering around Europe at 5am while trying desperately to cover up huge divisions in her own party is a good idea.

Someone with empathy and a desire to lift up the poorest in society, as opposed to a leader who puts in yet more legislation to hit the poor and enrich the already well off.

Someone who actually cares.
