This thread is like an old Morecambe and Wise show, isn't it...a repeat and not even funny the first time. :shame:

I used to walk to school mostly.

We are becoming a nation of softies.
Blimey I agree with you for once, it comes from the parents though. People do jump into their vehicles for ridiculously short journeys now. More walking was done back in the day.

So you also think 5 6 7 year old kids should navigate their way along dangerously busy roads alone on a dark morning.
I pray you don't have children in your care.

Don't be ridiculous. Who said that? I certainly didn't.

I didn't read the whole thread late last night, just the OP.

:canny: When certain posters on here chime in that's similar to how I imagine them to look.

It didn't mention ages? Unless my eyes were extremely blurry last night.

Generally speaking, kids do walk to school less than they used to, people get into vehicles for ridiculously short journeys. I guess you could argue that the world is a more dangerous place now, overall though, is it really the case.

I walked/cycled to school most days unless one of the old mans lorries were passing by, I thought it was normal to walk.
On lad used to come by car, he was ill. poor devil, he died just after we left school..

Not many teachers had a car, pushbike were the norm

When I wasn't in boarding school, I went to a school across town - too far to walk. Favourite teacher rode a Harley to school - they were rare in Britain then.

Why did you have to go across town? most kids went to a local school nearby unless they were at boarding school
