In short, student Liam Allan was accused of raping a girl and went through two years of hell despite police being in possession of evidence which corroborated his claims that the sex was consensual and the girl made the claims out of spite after he broke off the relationship.

Had he been found guilty he could have spent 15 years in prison and on the sex offenders register for life.

The police officer in charge of the investigation is being used as the scapegoat in this case, being accused of failing in his duty to review all available evidence. Of course those of us who use our eyes and ears every day know the real reason as to why this evidence was withheld, the feminazi driven and liberal elite enacted purge against men and the statistics driven policing used to validate it.

Of course this brings another issue to the table too:

In a society driven by Liberal enablers and their acolytes, many of whom want men to be named and shamed so women can be warned of anything they consider is a danger or detriment to them like wolf whistling or unwanted eye winking, it is strangely silent when the boot is on the other foot.

I don't see many liberal enablers or feminazis lobbying MP's or getting in the ears of their influential friends in government demanding that women who make these false accusations are named and shamed so the next man can be warned that if he so much as buys her a drink, he's likely to be sitting in a cell before the night is out, accused of her rape.

It is both, the reason for failing to do the job properly is partly due to the fact that the Police have a bias toward getting successful prosecution of rape cases brought about by years of accusations that they don't treat rape seriously.

This copper might have thought 'damn I haven't checked out those phone records, nevermind it will cost some significant overtime if I do and well we want as many rapes as possible prosecuted anyway, does the stats good and proves we are doing our job'
