Thousands Join Anti-corruption Protests in Tel Aviv for Sixth Week in a Row

Image

Thousands protested against corruption in Tel Aviv on Saturday in the sixth consecutive weekly demonstration in the city since the marches moved there from Petah Tikva. Protesters marched from at Habima Square toward the city's government complex.

Protesters held signs against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, chanted, "The people want legal justice," and carried signed reading, "Corrupt ones, go home."

Referring to Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit, Eldad Yaniv, one of the protest organizers, said: "Mendelblit thinks that if he puts this off until Passover, we won't be in the streets. He's clearly confused. We'll be here Saturday night after Saturday night, because we know the truth – they are afraid of tens of thousands in the streets." Manny Naftali, another of the organizers, added that the Israeli people "won't be quiet until the corruption disappears."

Rabbi Gilad Kariv, executive director of the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism who also spoke in Tel Aviv, said that "the rallies taking place throughout Israel in the past months are the best gift. These rallies bear witness to the concern felt by millions of Israelis for the future of the state."

Good for them, let's hope they remove the corruption.

Why not covered in UK/Western press like Iran protest though, these have been going on a lot longer.

‘Crime minister’ Netanyahu seems unmoved by 6 weeks of protests

Protests are continuing against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He remains defiant in the face of corruption cases against him, but his allies have pushed through a new law that would impede any possible prosecution.

Thousands of people marched against the Israeli PM in Tel Aviv over the weekend, denouncing Netanyahu as a “crime minister.” There are currently two cases against him being investigated by the police: one alleges that Netanyahu improperly accepted luxury gifts, while the other alleges that he abused power by cracking down on a newspaper in exchange for favorable coverage from its competitor.

Protests have now continued for six weeks, although demonstrations last weekend were attended by fewer people than in its first weeks. Activists say the protests against the PM will continue.

You'd think after that sort of self protection corruption and six weeks, it'd be a feature in every paper most days, like problems elsewhere have been.

I hope the Police manage to be allowed to do their job and arrest Netanyahu then the clean up can begin.

I'm with the Jewish people wanting an end to his reign of terror and corruption.

Thought I should mention that the title was originally six weeks of riots but then didn't want to confuse these protests with the other protests over Jerusalem and the US believing it has the power to declare another country's capital. In view of there being two sets of uprisings, I amended it as the latter has been more usually termed riots.

I see viper has been posting this evening, no doubt he'll give us the benefit of his wisdom on this in due course.

Thankfully those people live in a country where the government allows them to do that.

Israel: A disturbing discrimination against Ethiopian Jews

After years of suspicion, the Israeli Ministry of Health has acknowledged that a contraceptive was administered to Ethiopian Jews before being allowed to migrate to Israel.

The women were not informed about the risks involved.

A study released last December by IETV, an Israeli channel, has revived controversy over forceful administration of birth control medication on black Jews (Beta Israel community).

Yeah, cool story.

Meanwhile, back in Israel, the protests go on without the government killing any of the protestors.

What's the death toll in Iran now?

Israeli troops kill four Palestinians, wound 160 in protests over Jerusalem

GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli troops shot dead four Palestinians and wounded 150 others with live fire on Friday, medical officials said, as protests over U.S. President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital entered a second week.

In the occupied West Bank, another area where Palestinians are seeking statehood along with adjacent East Jerusalem, medics said two protesters were killed and 10 wounded by Israeli gunfire.

There'll never be any kind of peace in that region while Netanyahu is anywhere near power. He's a piece of shit and everyone knows it. Remember that overheard conversation about him between Sarkozy and Obama at the G20 a few years ago? :gigglesnshit:
