Mercedes A180 SE

Speaking with a neighbour today as he walked down the lane, he does this twice daily come rain or shine, the old bugga he is loaded.

I said your Merc looks smart,I have seen you drive by, he went on to tell me it got it on a government scheme with a deposit of £700 and about £50ish quid a week I think.
I know we have had this before 'Rolly' but I still do not understand, how the hell can he have a 'Merc' on such a scheme, he got it Monday and he gave his other car to his son which was a bloomin big Merc.

Just thought he is younger than myself.

I did not ask him any questions.

I just do not get it.

It's an eighteen thousand quid car that's all.
No big deal.
Some wheelchair friendly cars are five grand deposit and that's for a small van type vehicle.
A ford Focus is twenty grand so where's the problem?
They haven't given him the car he's rented it for three years and coughed up nearly a grand for the privilege.
What problem do you have with that?

Manager's Special
Mercedes-Benz A Class Hatchback A160 AMG Line 5dr
£169.99
ex. VAT
£203.99 (£50 a week)
inc. VAT

https://leasecar.uk/car-leasing/mercede ... hatchback/

Cheap as chips. The SE is £53 a week. And he is paying full price, so who knows what 'scheme' he is on. None - he just got this deal.

Jealousy, eh ???

Why do it on a 'scheme' when you can walk into the dealers and negotiate a better deal ?

Some people are too stupid to be helped.

Personal contract hire. £750 down payment. 4 year contract. 8,000 miles per year. £235 per month.

Hand back the keys in 4 years (usually 8 - 9p a mile surcharge over 8,000 pa)

Each to their own but i've always felt these arrangements to be pretty crazy. A friend of mine has a Corsa on a lease scheme and i only found out when he recently took early retirement. He only ever used it for work commute (approx 10 mile a day) and nothing else. He's had it around five years now and doesn't own as much as a spark plug. A neighbour whose work commute is 70 miles a day bought a good used Fiesta diesel cash outright. She keeps her cars a fair time before replacing and always has them regularly maintained. Yes when she comes to sell it will be below average price for the year as it will have high mileage, but will be a cracking bargain for anyone looking for a cheap runabout in good nick.

They aren't crazy at all.

Want to buy a £20k car ?

Try £450 a month for 5 years, and at the end the car is worth what Webuyanycar will pay (£2-3k) or you keep a car which is beginning to get expensive, faults wise. You then need to find another £20k....

OR - for £250 a month you PERMANENTLY have a new / nearly new car. You take advantage of new technology, better MPG, lower emissions, less road tax (until now) and you can upgrade every 3 years, getting all the upgraded safety, tech and comfort goodies.

I prefer the latter, have a Hyundai i40 with all the toys and love it. I could never have afforded the £23k to buy it.

Why don't you ask your neighbour? They will have the answers to your questions, not posters here?

Unless, of course, you've made all this up.
