Well for starters he gave the BOE more freedom and power which was lauded by the Tories.
Then he had to follow like the whole world had to follow banking deregulation that the Yanks had started. Everyone the world over had to or they would no longer be i the same game and all the money would be going to American organisations only.
When the ex boss of that BOE say it wasn't the governments fault it makes you look just a lot silly.

Labour not responsible for crash, says former Bank of England governor
The former Bank of England governor Mervyn King has denied that the previous Labour government was responsible for the financial crash, saying there was a shared intellectual responsibility across the political parties and financial institutions for failing to foresee the problems.

Saying his view on the cause of the crisis had evolved, he said he doubted any single one country could have found their way through the crisis.

Gordon Brown has admitted he made a "big mistake" over the handling of financial regulation in the run-up to the banking crisis of 2008.
The former prime minister told a US conference he had not realised the "entanglements" of global institutions.
He said: "We set up the FSA [the City regulator] believing the problem would come from the failure of an individual institution. That was the big mistake.
"We didn't understand just how entangled things were."
Mr Brown said he had to "accept my responsibility" but added he was not the only one who had made mistakes.

His mistake was deregulating the bankers because it was all going so well in the US. He made the same mistakes other leaders were making, not having the knowledge or foresight to see and learn from past mistakes when you give free reign to gamblers.
