Why ?

Because he was supposedly in charge of managing the world's biggest financial centre?

"The signature event of the Brown government, the financial crisis of 2007-2008, was a direct consequence of the light-touch, risk-based approach to financial regulation adopted by Brown and Ed Balls during their decade at the Treasury. "

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... ain-labour

Well for starters he gave the BOE more freedom and power which was lauded by the Tories.
Then he had to follow like the whole world had to follow banking deregulation that the Yanks had started. Everyone the world over had to or they would no longer be i the same game and all the money would be going to American organisations only.
When the ex boss of that BOE say it wasn't the governments fault it makes you look just a lot silly.

Labour not responsible for crash, says former Bank of England governor
The former Bank of England governor Mervyn King has denied that the previous Labour government was responsible for the financial crash, saying there was a shared intellectual responsibility across the political parties and financial institutions for failing to foresee the problems.

Saying his view on the cause of the crisis had evolved, he said he doubted any single one country could have found their way through the crisis.

Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, said he is surprised that the public is not more angry with bankers as they face a fall in living standards.

He obviously didn't realise at the time just how many dumbed down Mungos the country had.

Gordon Brown has admitted he made a "big mistake" over the handling of financial regulation in the run-up to the banking crisis of 2008.
The former prime minister told a US conference he had not realised the "entanglements" of global institutions.
He said: "We set up the FSA [the City regulator] believing the problem would come from the failure of an individual institution. That was the big mistake.
"We didn't understand just how entangled things were."
Mr Brown said he had to "accept my responsibility" but added he was not the only one who had made mistakes.
'Global meltdown'
Conservative Party deputy chairman Michael Fallon said: "These are the first words of contrition Gordon Brown has uttered in his entire political career.
"But he hasn't apologised for doubling the debt, selling off the gold and leaving our children and grandchildren paying the bills for his mistakes."

His mistake was deregulating the bankers because it was all going so well in the US. He made the same mistakes other leaders were making, not having the knowledge or foresight to see and learn from past mistakes when you give free reign to gamblers.

Well, there's a new banking de-regulation bill going through the US Senate right now.

Well, we have Gordon Brown's apology for his role in the financial crash
Here we have Tony Blair's apology for the WMD fiasco

"Tony Blair apologises for 'mistakes' over Iraq War and admits 'elements of truth' to view that invasion helped rise of Isis"
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/peop ... 07776.html

This issue that Theresa May is being asked to apologise for - anyone remember that?
Should she apologise?
Should the islanders get compensation?

Dunno. Has it been suggested so that stronger bonds can be built with other countries outside the eu for future trade deals?

Apologise Hell no, next an apology will be wanted for us with allies invading Europe through Normandy to get rid of Hitler. The stupid Labour bitch asking for an apology is trouble stirring up shit just like all Labourites. Including Lib Dems is some cases and SNP. "APOLOGISE HELL NO">
