Freedom Of Speech

we all know that freedom of speech is beginning to be threatened in England.

I am not sure of the severity of it over there though so naturally I pose this question to the english on this board.

If I came over to england and said to a Muslim..."your mother wears army boots!!" could I possibly face jail time?

Most certainly. In fact you'd do better not to converse with a muslim at all unless you are going to speak to them in glowing terms of how wonderful they and their progressive religion are.

Tip No.2: Be careful if you have to look at one too, you can be arrested and charged with a hate crime if they say you looked at them funny.

Thread should be closed on the grounds it's xenophobic.

We have several nationalities on the forum and you only want the opinions of the English.

I guess he's asking about England because I think I saw a post not long ago saying he was making a trip here in the near future, so you can't blame him for wanting the heads up.

Maybe he's not going to Scotland which would be a big mistake in my opinion and Wales too, if you're taking a trip to the UK you have to see them both too, it would be a crime and waste of experience if you don't.

Maybe..

Tom is one of those people, who thinks Scotland and Wales are little villages in England and he'll come across us on his travels.

It's surprising common belief amongst American's.

I don't know about the village thing but certainly many foreigners, not just Americans, think the UK or Great Britain is England. Tom is from California and I suppose coming from a state which is almost twice the size of the UK it might seem odd that it's split into 3 nations. :dunno:

Yes I know, it's annoying.

Something else I find annoying..

Americans who claim to be Scottish, because their Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather was born here.

To be fair, half the world does that.

In Patagonia, Argentina there is a community who are all descended from miners who went there from Wales, I believe they still speak Welsh or a version of it and many have red hair, an oddity in South America.

The op made a shit joke that some idiots will believe is true, that’s nothing to be pleased about.

Admittedly it's not a phrase I've heard before but then I'm not American. I guess he's asking if he should be careful what he says when he comes over here and of course the answer is a resounding yes, as causing offence in the UK these days is almost impossibe to avoid.

Like all people who complain about their rights to freedom of speech, you clearly know nothing about its true meaning.
