Stop talking crap, they weren't allowed to live here until the EU enlargement in 2004.

They started arriving after Britain opened its borders to EU migrants in 2004, something which Jack Straw, another former NEW Labour home secretary, admitted this week had been a “spectacular mistake”.

You are confusing the right to live with ARRIVING here. They arrived here en masse in 1997 but the first arrived here in 1995,

Read down the timeline to 1997. John Major signed us up for the accession countries to join the EU in 1996, which included Slovakia. Why do you moan at Red Tories but never moan at Blue/Purple Tories?

Letter dated 1997 about Roma in Dover.

You're talking about very small numbers compared to 2004 and after though.

There were no Roma in Sheffield and Rotherham before 2004.

No Dover had 10,000 plus in April 1997, many were deported after New Labour got into power. It caused massive problems for Kent Police. Hundreds of coaches from Kosice etc were full of Roma and they were supposed to go to London but they all decamped at Dover. I saw it first hand. You only have to look at the crime stats for Dover in 1996 compared to 1997.

OK I will take your word for it that there were a lot of Roma in Dover in the late 90s.

But we've gone off-topic anyway.

I was just disputing cannydc's point that EU migrants are all young, healthy and came here to work.

Not been to Page Hall recently but that photo in the Telegraph article is exactly what Ferham looks like, the Roma spend most of the day and half the night hanging out on the street outside their houses.

18% of immigrants to the UK are family unification.
They may not be young, or healthy, or ready to work.

So, based on the current immigration figures (150,000 from EU, 150,000 from the rest of the world), around half, or 9%, are likely to be family unifications from the EU. That's around 13,500.

And that around half (4%, 6,000) are children - from places like Spain, Germany, France, Holland etc as well as poorer nations, but all from the EU so generally healthy.

Let's say that 12% (720) of the kids are not. That means that 0.5% of the child family unifications from the EU will be more regular NHS users.

Adults from the EU are also likely to be of reasonable health overall. Say a quarter of them need NHS help.

That means that 1.25% (1,875) of adult family unifications from the EU will be more regular NHS users.

Looking at the obvious facts and approximations above, there can only be one conclusion.

AROUND 1 - 2% OF EU FAMILY UNIFICATIONS ARE LIKELY TO BE MORE REGULAR NHS USERS. Around 2,500 out of 150,000 each year.

A tiny number. I would be interested to see if you agree, and if not, what you would change.

Your maths are wrong.
18% of 150,000 is 27,000

Thanks, you are correct. Trying to eat a delicious Thai Red Curry with duck and post at the same time was a bad idea.

It actually means that around 5,000 are likely to need the NHS regularly. Still a tiny number.

No, your arithmetic is correct
The equation is 18% of 300 000 (total immigration) or 9% of 150 000 (EU immigration),both of which is near enough the 13 500 you stated.
Mungo showing his innumeracy there, what a thick Tory cunt. :shame: :canny:

Or is it just another typical Tory lie in a desperate attempt to "win"?

Brilliant!
Are you the person doing all those policy costings for Labour?
No wonder they screw it up so often.

Like the 17 Tory MPs who got their figures wrong, one an Employment Minister didn't know what the Minimum Wage was FFS

We’ve got a couple of old men round here with Thai brides too.

One old farmer makes his wife cook her Thai food outside in the garage as he cant stand the smell. Mind you in return he’s bought her a car, paid for driving lessons and rescued her from a life of near poverty. All she has to do is keep his bed warm and pretend she loves him. :pmsl:
