The inquiry only started a couple of weeks ago.
Personally, I'm going to wait for the findings of the professionals.
But you can see that there are plenty of armchair experts on here who apparently already know the answer.

More nonsense.

We know exactly why the fire started - a faulty fridge in one of the flats.

Fortunately, the enquiry will shine a cruel light on the inadequacies of the agencies in their responses, and the failures of planning by the local council prior to the fire.

Good.
They should call you up as a witness
You can share your inside knowledge with the inquiry.

The old 'faulty fridge' gambit is always a good one. Jeez there are so many foreigners managing to buy 'faulty fridges' that perhaps we should ban them from entering electrical stores, or at least get their lefty liberal 'enablers' to go with them when they buy one.

Yes you are right, no washing machine, fridge or fridge freezer has ever caught fire in a flat before.

Good call

All electrical items sold in stores are PAT safety tested by law, prior to sale.

The days of shops selling 'dodgy' uncertified electrical goods are long gone.

Even in London

Ask a fireman the same question , there’s plenty of dodgy secondhand shops , and fires started by dodge secondhand appliances

The maximum penalty is a fine and 12 months' imprisonment. However, where it can be shown that an offence has been committed with the consent, or owing to the fault, of a single director, manager or similar company officer, such persons may additionally be held liable for a range of other offences, including manslaughter.

Good luck if they fancy risking a charge of manslaughter.

That's assuming they haven't had the obligatory checks by Trading Standards, if course.

Ask a fireman (like my nephew) and he will tell you that most electrical fires are caused by OVERLOADED JUNCTIONS, especially multi-plugs.

That fridge that started the fire was faulty , it past PAT safety check when new or secondhand and thousands were recalled after event by the manufacturer, I bet there’s second hand shops that still sale this model , and yes they are chancers that float the law , the manufacturer that made the faulty fridge is a massive corporation, or they get is a fine if that

Beko are one company who had recalls on fridges. If they promptly and prominently put out item recalls, their duty of care could be seen to have been met, and they may well not face prosecution. It's not clear of the make in this case.
