What is Socialism?

What is Socialism?

Postby Fletch » Sat Aug 25, 2018 6:59 pm

There is much mention of the term socialism here and in the media in general, especially since JC became Labour leader, but what do those mentioning it, believe it is?

We have mungo, viper/dox, Raven, Tom, Maddog and various guests all claiming it's socialism when parties or policies are discussed, even whole countries. Only the other day we had a list from mungo of socialist countries so what is it chaps, chapesses? :dunno:

That's not really the role of philosophy.

And socialism is as a philosophy then?
That philosophy has failed/is failing in every country it was tried?
Have you been reading about Venezuela?
Norway the country people like to point to as a success is deep in debt :pmsl:
I won't bother mentioning all the other failed socialist countries.

Libraries, state education, social care, NHS, having a safety net if you fall on hard times and just generally giving a shit about other people and the sort of society you want to live in.
Most people, whether they want to accept it or not are Socialists.

It was a Socialist government that rebuilt this country after WW2. Social housing & our NHS didn't just magically appear from nowhere & they certainly weren't gifted to us by capitalists.

Every single thing you have mentioned is broken or on verge of collapse, Not very good examples to prove your point is it.
In fact you helped me prove mine :pmsl:
And of course you socialists don't want to pay for it. You want the workers or the high earners to pay :hand:

And look at it now all on the verge of collapse. If you think capitalism didn't pay for it you're a fucking idiot.

The problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other peoples money. Then the state starts killing millions of its own population. Its mainly low calibre people who exhalt it as basically at the end of the day they want more of my money for free.

I effectively pay 60% tax so my instinct is to say fuck off lazy bastards.

All those things ran smoothly and efficiently when private firms weren't using them as cash cows.
Education, health and social care are very basic things. If you believe the 6th richest economy in the world can't afford to fund them adequately you're a... Let's just say naive. :paranoid:

Yep they did. That's the power of media for you!
It's a different story today, people aren't as willing to believe what the BBC & gutter press tell them.

In that short period a Socialist government achieved more than the Tories have in generations.
