People on minimum wage/national living wage in full time jobs have to pay tax and NI, but those on benefits don't have to. Those on minimum wage/NLW probably can't get any help with housing costs either, whereas those on benefits can get their rent paid. Housing costs are the main problem, generally speaking. Someone on minimum wage/national living wage could manage if they could have reasonable housing costs. Unfortunately, council/housing association flats and houses are in demand and there are not enough to go round. Something should be done about private rental costs.
