US Emerges as the World’s Hegemon

The United States emerged after World War II as the leading imperialist power. With the implosion of the Socialist Bloc around 1991, US hegemony became even more consolidated. Today the US is the undisputed world’s hegemon.

Hegemony means to rule but even more so to dominate. As the world’s hegemon, the US will not tolerate neutral parties, let alone hostile ones. As articulated in the Bush Doctrine, the US will try to asphyxiate any nascent counter-hegemonic project, no matter how insignificant.

In the Caribbean, for instance, the US snuffed out the leftist government of Grenada in 1983 in what was code named Operation Urgent Fury. Grenada has a population smaller than Vacaville, California.

The only powers that the world’s hegemon will tolerate are junior partners such as Colombia in Latin America. The junior partner must accept a neoliberal economic regime designed to serve the interests of capital. Structural adjustment of the economy is demanded such that the neoliberal “reforms” become irreversible; so that you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Citizens’ Petition to Lift All Sanctions Against Venezuela Is Rejected by Canadian Parliament

Finally, confronted by the uncompromising politically motivated position of the Canadian government, Canadians are actively organizing and are not showing any signs of giving up on their request “to immediately lift all sanctions against Venezuela” and “immediately cease all intervention against Venezuela.”

How long before the halfwits spouting this realise they have been conned by western propaganda to cover for brutal western behaviour? :dunno:

What a bunch of fucking freaks!

Iran and Saudi are both shitty regimes, and they are fighting each other in various places throughout the Middle East. I don't think we should be associated with either one, but please spare me the bullshit about one being any better than the other.

Again, we pick the assholes that are better to us.

Not quite

Look at the groups who get their funding and ideological foundations from the Saudis - a shit list of all the terror groups the West is supposed to be fighting.

How many Iranian were involved in 9/11? :doomed:

Iran doesn't pose a threat to the American people, but it is a impediment to the geo-political interests of the American state therefore it is pictured as a grave danger. The Saudi's meanwhile literally fund the psychos that kill Americans, but because they protect the geo-political interests of the US state they are pictured as the good guys

For a libertarian you sure do swallow the state kool-aid quite a lot :ooer:

Didn't Iran state that they would send terrorists to the U.S if embargo's weren't dropped recently? I'd call that a threat!

The state doesnt tell me that Saudi and Iran are shitty authoritarian regimes, their actions do.

If you like one better than the other, I'm sure you have your reasons.

One thing is for certain, they don't like each other and part of that dislike is based on things that happened before the US existed.

Yet you think the Saudis are "better to us". The question there then is who is "us", which as I already explained is really the American state. Its actions in funding and supporting the Islamists that carry out terror attacks on Americans is hardly better for you.

Maddog wrote:If you like one better than the other, I'm sure you have your reasons.

Nope. Dont like either which is why I think they should not be supported militarily or politically (at the same time neither should be subject to sanctions or embargos as this only harms the people of those countries not the ruling elites)

That doesnt absolve America (and the west in general) of its role in fucking that region up. And the ruling elites of both are a consequence of western meddling; the House of Saud only rule Arabia because the Brits put them in power, and the Iranian revolution was a reaction to the Shah (another western puppet ruler).

Yes, the history of that region is one of peace, and only the West sells arms there. Where does Iran get it's weapons?

Have you ever considered holding the people of that region responsible for what happens in that region? At some point, you may want to abandon using a scapegoat to explain their problems.

Good idea. America should stop intervening either for or against and let the people in that region be responsible for their own fate.

That includes not propping up the Israeli state - make them be self sufficient and stand on their own two feet like you right wingers claim people should.

Still dodges the issue:

It doesn't make anyone else responsible.

If you pull the trigger on a weapon, I will hold you 100% responsible. You are the problem, not the weapon.

Now I will admit that in my opinion, it serves the US no real interest in the long run, by selling these people weapons, but I am 100% confident in their ability to wage war without our help.
