Though all or most are subject to interpretation and where appropriate jury consideration - so comparisons between the "letter" of the law are not terribly useful.

So could any one in the UK interpet the law to say that you could own an AR-15 without a special license?

Not in that case - but that's not to do with freedom of speech which is what you claiming was fundamentally different. We don't eat GM either.

Nor in the case of speech. Both counties allow for some forms of free speech and gun ownership. But to suggest that both countries have the same laws or freedoms in regards to speech or gun ownership is just silly. The article I posted laid out the differences. It's not saying one is better than the other but just explaining how different countries handle offensive speech. You might learn something by reading it. None of us are harmed by being exposed to new information now are we?

Gun ownership, very different - freedom of speech, not so.

Do you think the folks people in the US would be arrested for mocking a fire in a building?

They weren't arrested for that here. Anyone is free to mock anything.

It's an opinion piece by an ex gov and now columnist for Bloomberg.

You (Americans) seem to think nowhere else has freedom. You have no idea how the rest of the world lives, just have the propaganda about 'fighting for freedom' and 'bringing freedom and democracy to x country'. A nation with a war economy makes it easier to get firearms, no real surprise there. Nothing to be proud of either in a civilised wealthy western nation. All those God loving people only too happy to let loose on others at the drop of a hat. :thud:

Why do you make this so difficult?

Would they have been arrested in the US at all?

Fletch, so you think the freedoms in Europe and the US are the same? Do we look at them the same?

You have already acknowledged that Americans are different.

Americans tend to be loud and brash, with over inflated opinions of themselves to suit their gut sizes  :gigglesnshit:

Take guns out of the equation and in what way are they different?

I suppose we can cross roads anywhere without being arrested for jay walking and don't have to give our social security number to the police when asked nor produce ID to vote. We don't have to register the party we intend to vote for before voting either. :dunno:

What the fuck is freedom of speech actually designed for? To talk about how cute the royal spawn is?

Your country seems to be having a problem with freedom of the press and the right to bear arms. Now fuck off back to the klan.

I'm not making anything difficult, Maddy. You implied people were arrested for mocking the fire, they weren't.

I have no idea if they would be arrested in the US - just as I have no idea why you strung up blacks, shot protesting students or wear cowboy hats. Different strokes. :dunno:

We're they arrested, or is this some of that game news?

They were arrested (but released) on possible public order offences - not freedom of speech or lack of it.

Social security numbers are not used for identification and at least in Texas, we don't register by party.

In fact, you don't have to show a cop anything unless he can articulate reasonable suspicion as to why he wants to know who you are.

You do need to show some form of ID to vote and rent a book at the library.
