Local Company Gifts All Employees with Handguns for Christmas

In a phone call with Local 5, BenShot owner Ben and Media Relations Manager Chelsea Priest went into more detail regarding what went into the gift catching the nation's attention.

On social media many WFRV viewers expressed curiosity regarding background checks.

As it turns out, Ben and Chelsea explained the actual guns were picked up individually by each employee, meaning background checks were conducted at the point of purchase.

BenShot asked employees, 16 full-time in all, to visit a local gun store of their choice and pick out the gun they wanted.

After doing so, the employees informed BenShot the price of the gun at which point the company provided a gift card worth up to $500 to go towards the final purchase.

Some employees bought guns that were more expensive than $500, but employees made up the difference on their own.

BenShot owner Ben explained to Local 5 that Wisconsin background checks are pretty quick,

Looking forward to Benshot's choice of words when the first fatality from those weapons is revealed.

And just hoping it isn't a 9 year old kid drilling his 6 year old sister from four feet away....

We have a few hundred million guns in private hands. 15 more won't cause a crime wave. :smilin:

Who mentioned crime ? One extra gun is one too many - 15 just multiplies the chances of blood on Benshot's hands by 15...

Well, a child killing another child is still a crime.

Really ?

I know you can be deemed a criminal as a mere baby in many US states, but accidents can and do happen.

The child wouldn't be punished for committing the crime, but the crime still occurred.

In any event, folks seem to manage fairly well with their firearms and for the most part, refrain from accidently shooting each other.

And, the gift wasn't mandatory. Two of the employees opted for something else.

What a thoughtful Christmas present choice?
$500 toward the gun of the employees choice.
I just hope small children don’t get the task of unwrapping those on Christmas morning.
I can’t think they’ll think much of Santa when opening those.

Generosity aside I am concerned by the choice of guns for christmas, is their motivation to kill the xmas spirit?

Not when done by a four year old accidentally. The legal term would be the child lacked capacity to commit the crime

Where is no capacity no crime is committed that's how the law works.

In a situation where a toddler shoots someone by mistake it's an accident. None of the 28 toddlers who accidentally killed someone in 2015 were arrested, charged or tried for a crime. In that particular year toddlers in America kill more people people that terrorists but where politicians fell over themselves to invent ways to prevent terrorism in ways that usually infringed on American's First Amendment rights all held back from any action that might infringe the Second Amendment rights, and I'm sure the millions funnelled through the NRA by Russia to GOP candidates had nothing to do with that.

Whether or not a crime occurred is sorta getting out in the weeds. Toddlers lack the capacity to be charged, so it's sorta moot.

Even toddlers funded by the Russians. :more beer:

Do you have a legal "age of criminal responsibility" where you are, Maddy?

Although on second thought, allowing a toddler access to a gun often is a crime. Therefore, while the toddler has not committed a crime, in many cases, the owner of the firearm has, therefore a crime would have occurred.

Sort a. But some of the "tough on crime" prosecutors will attempt to certify children as adults. I'm not a fan.
