NORTH + MIDLANDS GAMMONS TO HAVE PENSIONS CUT

Postby Cannydc » Sat Jan 19, 2019 1:01 am

Poorer pensioner couples will lose more than £7,000 a year, under a cut “sneaked out” while MPs are preparing for the showdown Brexit vote.

Ministers have been accused of attempting to bury the impact of the change to pension credit, which tops up the incomes of hard-up elderly people.

It means couples where only one partner is over the state pension age, which is now 65 or up to 68 for both men and women depending on when they were born, will no longer receive the extra benefit.

It will take effect from 15 May, when the partner below the pension age is required to make a claim for universal credit, which merges six working-age benefits into a single payment.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) quietly revealed the cut in a written Commons statement at 7.20pm on Monday evening – as MPs held talks ahead of the meaningful vote on Theresa May‘s Brexit deal.

A couple expecting to receive £13,273 in the 2019-20 financial year from pension credit would see that figure fall to just £5,986.68 under universal credit.

As there are many poorer elderly couples in the North and Midlands, a large majority of whom voted for Brexit, this could be seen as divine retribution. The Sunderland massive will be buying yellow jackets as we speak.

On the other hand, it could just be looked at as yet another sign of the cruel incompetence of this Tory shower. Your call.

I think this is only going to affect those with little savings. I forget the max now but i think it's in the region of £15 grand. If you've got anything of that amount or over in ISA's, savings, current account or whatever - forget it, you won't qualify for anything. I know government have trumpeted before about their intention to "reward savers" but it's all bollocks.

Why would they do this to their core group of voters? Are they bowing out of the race to power?

Poor Mango, how you struggle with comprehension. :shake head:

The thread title does not state that pensioner gammons such as yourself will suffer only in the North and Midlands. In fact, Canny, being the compassionate soul he is seeks to help the slow-witted by going on to say, "As there are many poorer elderly couples in the North and Midlands, a large majority of whom voted for Brexit, this could be seen as divine retribution."

Canny old bean, as a solid Remainer I really do feel it necessary to point out that the majority of the Midlands & Northern Gammons you speak of are Labour Supporters who have to all intents and purposes shot themselves in the foot. It is well known that the Blue Rinse Brigade, regardless of political leanings, were the most ardent of Leave voters.

Please stand corrected and tell us about these Labour Gammons and how the obvious pantomime and collusion by useless looking May and the EU is now making these people see the light ---your pension forecast being an excellent example of just how the most ardent remainers are now being educated to the reality of Brexit and the impact it will have on their lives --be they Labour LibDem or Tory Gammons.

The Notion that All Gammons are Tory and that they are wholly responsible for the Leave win in the referendum is just plain silly.

We Remainers are traditional Tories, Labour, LibDems etc and your trying to blame one party for Brexit Bollocks is silly, especially as comrade Corbyn voted Leave.

And the reason Britain's economic outlook, inc your pension warnings, are because Leave won --not because of the sitting government.

Let us be fair on this matter, Brexit is Bollocks and it is (right now) causing irreparable damage to Britain. The economy and British Business is suffering and will suffer even more if we go forward with this madness. And the only way this can be reversed is for sanity to prevail.

Stop this bollock Brexit nonsense now.

I am sure Sunderland has some lovely places to live and historic places of note. If our crappy government was ever serious about job creation in deprived areas they would note that there are plenty of people who would be delighted by the prospect of job opportunities in such places - so I have to ask why they don't go out of their way to encourage foreign investment.
