INSTEX: Europe sets up transactions channel with Iran

Several European countries have set up a new transaction channel that will allow companies to continue trading with Irandespite US sanctions. The announcement was made on Thursday.

The channel, set up by Germany, France and the UK, is called INSTEX — short for "Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges."

"We're making clear that we didn't just talk about keeping the nuclear deal with Iran alive, but now we're creating a possibility to conduct business transactions," German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told reporters Thursday after a meeting with European counterparts in Bucharest, Romania.

"This is a precondition for us to meet the obligations we entered into in order to demand from Iran that it doesn't begin military uranium enrichment," Heiko said.

The payment channel allows for European countries to continue trade with Iran but could put them on a collision course with Washington.

and even the msm is carrying it, well US msm anyway.

Oh dear, more opting out of dollar trading.

What's DC going to do about this then? All the threats to countries about doing trade with Iran and breaking sanctions. :woteva:

Your move Washington. :artist:

Iran sanctions: Trump warns trading partners 7 August 2018

US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to anyone trading with Iran, following his re-imposition of sanctions on the country.

"Anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States," the president tweeted.

Some re-imposed sanctions took effect overnight and tougher ones relating to oil exports will begin in November.

Stroke of luck anyway. Europe won't be raped and pillaged by US corps and our food remains safe. :choc:

USA accounted for 19% of the value of UK exports in 2016/17, second only to the EU as a whole, which bought 44% of UK exports.

Most Yanks probably buy UK stuff not even realising where it came from (eg Scotch whiskey comes from a remote part of Alaska)

Top companies include
Anglo American PLC (diversified metals, mining)
AstraZeneca (pharmaceuticals)
BP (oil, gas)
British American Tobacco (tobacco)
GlaxoSmithKline (pharmaceuticals)
Johnson Matthey (chemicals)

Plus various car manufacturers...
