The number of deaths from alcohol, drugs and suicide in 2017 hit the highest level since federal data collection started in 1999, according to an analysis of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data by two public health nonprofits.

Guns. How about much much stricter gun control. Apparently, there are more guns than people in the US. That should cut down on a fair few deaths.

Obesity. Too much to eat, too little exercise, so that balance has to re-addressed. Apparently car ownership/household is higher than most of the world and IMO there is somewhat of a link between the number of cars and the level of obesity, as driving can make you lazy, e.g. driving when you could walk or get a bus.

Drugs. Now, if I knew the answer to solving that, I would be heavily in demand.

Not only has the price of crack fallen by 13% since 2007, but it is now more readily available. Newly established supply routes in the UK have also emerged. Central city gangs distribute crack into coastal and rural areas, along so-called "county lines." The Home Office reports that the number of seizures of crack in Britain are currently at their highest since 2008, although the weight of seizures has fallen since 2015-16.
