Do you think people are just dropping in the streets?
Addiction has plagued mankind for centuries.
You sound like you want to build a wall.
It's now crack smack/coke alcohol guns slit wrists.
There have always been drugs and alcohol and addiction yes but it's becoming a very serious problem just now and is expected to get much worse.
No, the problem now is opioids. Crack was the 90's when we had the highest murder and incarceration rates in our history.
We are actually closing prisons now, because we don't have the inmates for them.
Alcohol isn't really a huge problem either, until you start mixing it with pills.
You're bias is so strong, that you can't even discuss this topic objectively.
Every city has crack cocaine.
Every city has cocaine amphetamines heroin alcohol prescription drugs including opioids and you lot are killing yourselves more and more determindley and in greater numbers the question is why.
You aren't willing to discuss it because you're to busy trying to score points over crack because for some strange reason you think it's gone away.
The world is awash with crack people cook it up and make crack.

Studied economics at university but doesn't understand how money comes into existence and doesn't understand fractional reserve banking doesn't understand that no debt equals no money.
I'm in the thick of the drug scene and there's no crack anymore .... you're full of shit Maddog.
You are what is known around the world as the dumb American .... the stupid Yank.

Thats because crack itself was illegal so the very industry itself was a crime, and most users needed to commit crime to get it. The opiods killing Americans in record numbers are LEGAL, the drug dealers now are profit making businesses operating in the open, and the pills they pump out are cheap, a lot stronger (fentanyl is a 100 times more powerful than heroin) and easy to get hold of (just raid grandmas drug cabinet).
I wouldn't know the first place to get crack but I could get these pills any time I want; my Mum has chronic back problems and as a result gets prescribed all types of shit - she herself stopped taking some as they were too strong and left her like a zombie.
Your attitude sums up why there is no desire to solve the problem in Washington - "yeah people are dropping down like flies but they are poor people so who gives a shit, as long as they dont try to steal my possessions to feed their habits let they drop down dead".
Also immediate action on the problem will require some government intervention - go after the companies profiting from this death (more regulation) and providing better funded treatment/social programs tackling some of the root causes like poverty (more taxes) - its easy to see why your response is to dismiss the problem.

Tell that to the Russians.

The right wing attitude and neoliberalism corporate agenda is causing misery for many Americans. Forced to pay a lot of taxes but it's used to wage war on the world and line the pockets of selected private corporations rather than spent on the people/infrastructure. This leads them to have to pay high taxes and then pay for all other services because 'private/competition is the only way'. Only there isn't competition, just cartels making money from taxes and the public for any services provided.
Their education levels are abysmal, communist this, socialism that as arguments against the capitalist system they have is either a fundamental misunderstanding or malicious lies to protect a corrupt system. They only repeat what they've been told so t's not really the public at large's fault. This includes Muslims are bad, Islam is the cause of all wars and terror and everyone who is struggling has no-one to blame but themselves.
The main points of neo-liberalism include:
2 CUTTING PUBLIC EXPENDITURE FOR SOCIAL SERVICES like education and health care. REDUCING THE SAFETY-NET FOR THE POOR, and even maintenance of roads, bridges, water supply -- again in the name of reducing government's role. Of course, they don't oppose government subsidies and tax benefits for business.
5 ELIMINATING THE CONCEPT OF "THE PUBLIC GOOD" or "COMMUNITY" and replacing it with "individual responsibility." Pressuring the poorest people in a society to find solutions to their lack of health care, education and social security all by themselves -- then blaming them, if they fail, as "lazy."

The UK is not far behind.
is it any wonder people try to lose themselves for a while through drugs or end it all in desperation?

Matt's a libertarian or an anarchist. I often agree with him. I do in this case too. The government shouldn't be enforcing civil cases like this with the police.
I'm trying to figure out how not paying for an ambulance ride would result in a civil judgement that would result in a court hearing. Wouldn't happen in Texas. They would just turn it over to a collection agency like any unpaid bills.
Maybe the ambulance company is considered a government entity and it's considered theft of government services?
